okay, more helpful: I can remember like twice when it happened. I just thought it was funny how they had to explain it to themselves... but then they didn't have wheels on Cybertron* so maybe it was a novel concept.

It was great how at the end of Desertion of the Dinobots pt. 1 Shockwave just blows the hell out of Spike and Carly, and then in pt. 2 it was like "oh it was just a magical disappear-o ray" :tflaugh

my favorite WTF G1 moment is the previously mentioned season 3 scene where Ultra Magnus uses his own body to protect Wheelie. that one scene proves 100% beyond the shadow of any doubt exactly how unfit Magnus was to be leader. give me Rodimus' whining anyday.

I just look at it this way:

 

Wheelie is that annoying neighbor's kid that keeps bugging you while you're trying to trim the privet hedge. You want him to develop laryngitis, or something to shut him up, but when you look up and see him about to get run over by the street sweeper, it's 'Aw, crap...' and you save him.

 

For me, the big WTF with Wheelie is that he isn't placed in some kind of protective custody that locks him away somewhere to educate him. Teach him things like:

 

Don't pick on bots 200+ times your mass.

Talking in incessant, bad rhyme makes people want to hurt you.

If you're ever gonna be a big bot, you need to loose the preschool colour scheme.

Wandering into a battlefield to bot-scotch or whatever it is you were doing yesterday is STUPID.

Don't tease the Dinobots. They WILL eat you.
