Asked about the direction of the movie he pointed out:

Visualize what you want.

 

Ten plus giant robots fighting and talking for two hours.

Got it?

 

Cool.  I'd see that.

 

Except THAT is CGI or 2 D animation for two hours.

 

That is NOT what we EVER were making.

My response was:

I'm guessing X-men...

The X-men were only together, battling the bad guys for, what, the last 20 minutes of the movie?

  Firstly we met Rogue...

  Then Wolverine...

  Through them we met the X-men and briefly saw Sabretooth in action.

  Then the real introduction to the rest of the X-men...

  Then a scurmish with more of the Brotherhood...

  Then finally the last battle.

  But we were introduced to these characters slowly, working up to the climax.

  We didn't see the equivilent of what a lot of people seem to want. We didn't see an opening in the Danger Room as the already formed X-men trained. We didn't see them immediately fly off to fight the Brotherhood and spend the next hour in an epic battle with them, trading quips.

  We got to know the characters first, then built towards the battles and special effects and AWE.

  But we weren't immediately thrust into their world, we saw the reaction of ordinary people, we saw thow they reacted to the unusual in their midst.

  If this movie takes anything LIKE the same approach it WILL WORK.

 

Godzilla wasn't a character. It was a plot device.

Now, clearly, none of us want to see Transformers reduced to being the same sort of plot device.

  We don't want to see robot carnage and nothing else, no personality, just battles or destruction.

  There's room for that but the "Godzillas" should be many and have PERSONALITY.

  Am I anywhere near the mark here Don?

When asked about the human roles, as there was some confusion as to how central they were to the movie, Don responded:

 

  Don NEVER said it was from a human point of view (although apparently some Dreamworks website DID say that)

 

Don said that the HUMANS were very important to the film.

When I said I'd be a lot happier in I knew there wouldn't be any robot-on-robot love action between Arcee and any of the other characters he confirmed:

When asked about the general feel of designs from the pre-meeting with Hasbro and whether Prime had his face plate Don confirmed:

G1 with a modernist feel

Oh, I better add this, since it was in response to one of the regular posters here:

 

When attempting to go through a 52 page thread, with 40 posts(max) a page, every page has something different that you could comment on.  This board could use a semi-moderator or something.  At least to cut down the 1000 response threads.

So Don can't give a FINAL answer on whether he has a faceplate or not til Bay actually signs and decides.

It's just interesting that that's up for discussion. I don't care either way myself. I certainly understand the issue with having your main good guy behind a mask.

 

P.S. I always thought that the ones holding the purse strings also had influence over a film - though they would probably only exert that influence if it were important enough to them to bother. I don't think "Prime's faceplate" would fall into that category.

 

P.P.S. I am very interested to see the design ideas they come up with......

yeah, i used to be all like, "STFU you guys are getting a TF movie!!"

 

But now it's like we are getting, "Hey, our TF movie will cater to everyone!!!  Well except of course the people who kept the franchise going for 20 F*CKING years!!!"
