Hot Rod as the 'Chosen One' in TFTM

Recommended Posts

Hot Rod didn't do everything right in the movie because he was "bonded" with the matrix, and magnus wasn't such a screw up because he didn't... the Matrix was an external thing until Hot Rod openned it.

It in no way influenced the course of events in either of thier lives prior to that.

so to recap;

HOT ROD PWNS

Ultra Magnus can't deal with that now

I think one of the questions at the heart of any "Hot Rod=New Prime" thread is why Hot Rod? He was brash, loud, annoying and would most likely be the first to catch a round in the dome for his behavior. Yet he becathe new Prime and ended up tapping the Matrix. People usually expect their potential leaders to have 90% "extemeness" and be all wise and Blot, yet Roddy went from typical youth to manly and in charge in a matter of seconds--no life-altering events that shaped him, no mentor to guide his path, just a simple "Arise, Rodimus Prime" and BAM! He's a natural leader.

the matrix chooses the new leader not any of the primes rodimus was the fifth prime and they were all chosen.  they didnt just pick up the matrix and they were a prime.  hot rod would have been a prime even if he didnt catch the matrix and if he never got it back from galvatron cybertron would be gone and there would be no prime and no hope at all

I dunno.

Bad scripting/translation aside, Magnus had much more leader mojo both before and after the Rodimus transformation. He was always having to correct or steer Rodimus. While he didn't feel worthy of being supreme commander, he certainly led well in anything he did. Even on junkion, he made sure his people were safe before facing his enemy.

As to courage, one only need look to the episode where Galvatron nearly gets run over by Magnus running full out to get clear of an explosion that's been set to detroy the decepticons. Galvatron shouts-

'Come back here and face me, coward! Wait... Magnus is no coward.... Gavlatron to all Decepticons! Abandon the planet!!!'

I just think it's a great excercise for Professor Farnsworth's 'What If' machine.

The fifth? Out of curiosity, where did you come up with that number?

Prolly from Dreamwave's comic.

Known Primes:

Alpha Prime

Omega Prime

Sentinel Prime

Optimus Prime

Rodimus Prime

Which had nothing to do with the cartoon, however.

Yeah, we have all of the DW books (Rodimus_Prime80 & i) and we go off of those & the TV show.

I personally would have preffered Ultra, but the writters decided to make him an ineffective leader and Rodimus after the movie was most of the time unsure of himself and needed the support group of Ultra, Springer, and Arcee.

I wouldn't say that Rodimus was unsure of himself "most of the time."  Season 3 was written super inconsistently - Rodimus went from being a great leader to a whiny "why me" boy and back again from one episode to the next.  And, I'd say that he only doubted himself in a small handful of episodes - in others he was at least as competent as Optimus.  He did tend to use the advice of his "council" more however, which made him more like Picard compared to Optimus' Kirk.

In 5 faces of Darkness there apears to be 7 primes Some teal guy, a guy who looks like rodimus, a blue guy with a faceplate, another Blue guy, Optimus Prime, and then Rodimus prime*

the comics have Primon(debatable), Prima, Prime Nova, Sentenial Prime, Optimus Prime, and Rodimus Prime
