Why Megatron's gun mode is a bad idea

Recommended Posts

EEEEEEExcellent comic! :thumb

On the topic of MEGATRON I don't thing that anything can really symbolize "evil" and total disreguard for life itsself more than a nickel plated gun.  MEGATRON...a being of pureist despicable evil, who would only want just an opportunity to transform into the handgun mode to piastolwhip his enemies...even some allies.  The gun is a symbol of power and the misuse of it that desperate megalomaniacs use in order to get their way.  To justify their means.  To cohearce their foes with their strength...or get blown away and bullet riddled like little B's.

Don't tell me that MEGATRON'S Walther P38 mode was ill concieved...it's the one reason that MEGATRON was the BEST of all villans in my mind.  All you had to see was what was in his SPARK.  I'd even go as far as to say that his truer form was the Gun.

Go on MEGATRON!!  :tfdance

"MEGATRON'S Walther P38 mode was ill concieved"

:P

And I say that because Megatron wasn't created ex nihilo by HasTak for the Transfomers line. HasTak chose GunRobo Walther P-38 UNCLE to be the leader of the bad guys, when they could have picked any of the existing Diaclone toys. But they chose a Microman toy instead. I just think it's silly the way people go on about how handguns are the purest symbol of evil in the universe bla bla bla. You all sound like a bunch of liberals whining about the NRA or something. (BTW I'm a liberal so STFU before you even comment on that.)

All you have to do is say "I like G1 Megatron better than G2 Megatron" and that'll be fine. No one's gonna say "NO YOU CAN'T!! YOU HAVE TO LIKE THE TANK VERSION!!!" (At least I'm not.) I just think we're venturing into rationalization territory here.

Damn buddy, kill me next time will ya?

I'm in no way a G-1 purist.  In fact I think that the best form for MEGATRON was TRANSMETALS 2 version for it's sheer beauty and ...(dare I say it?)  SOULGUTS that should be a major part of most Giant Robot Toys.  I didn't say that the gun was the "purist form of evil in the universe".  That would be overstepping quite a bit because the universe is a big place.  But just think...The MICROMAN gun being the inspiration behind MEGS must have made the writer or artist go straight home and feverishly drawing or writing feverishly creating the dark, powerful evil leader of the DECEPTICON which makes the world of TRANSFORMERS the complete and complex storyline we see today.

I'm not whining about (your favorite) tank vs gun.  I'm just giving my two cents about why the gun wasn't a bad idea.  It's still a symbol of distruction (without being a Hippy or Charlton Heston about the thing...damn) worldwide pretty much unless you life on an island where they only use tanks and you might want to help me with finding that somewhere on the globe. :tftongue

"YOU HAVE TO LIKE THE TANK VERSION!!" .... :redface What? Someone had to say it.

:rofl  :rofl  :rofl

:tfdance <-I LOVE THIS DAMN GUY!!!

I got the new Mystery Science Theater 3000 DVD set in the mail yesterday.  One of the episodes is with the movie "Hercules Unchained" starring Steve Reeves as Hercules.  After Joel and the bots watch the movie, they discussed why such movies with mythical heroes were made.  Ideas abounded, including post-war need for heroic figures during the Cold War, as well as innate, Joseph Campbell type ideas on mythology.  As Joel, Gypsy, and Crow continue to discuss, Tom Servo gets fed up and tells it like it is.

Servo yells out that these movie were made in Italy, an American distributor bought them for cheap, dubbed them, and made lots of money off of them.  End of story.

I thought this to be a perfect metaphor for this G1 Megatron problem.  He is a gun because they chose that Diaclone toy to be Megatron, that's all.  This is by far the nerdiest Transformers topic, ever.  It was a cartoon from the '80s that was made up to go with a toyline.  Kids accepted Megatron.  Maybe some of you geeks who were in you early teens when G1 was on began thinking about this early on, but it wasn't a show for you.  You know how, when we complain about Armada and Energon toys, we always get "It is a kid's show,"? Well, that's what G1 was.  So everyone, stop this nonsense right now.

There is nothing wrong with liking G1 Megatron and nothing wrong with his gun mode. Had he been some sort of cannon like Galvatron was, we wouldn't even be talking about this.  Just think of Megatron as a cannon without a tripod.

but you are forgetting to ask why, of all the available diaclone/microman toys, did hasbro pick that particular one to be megatron? they could just as easily have based the decepticon leader on the Blitzwing toy, who would have been fitting since he has two vehicle modes and both are powerful millitary vehicles. but no, hasbro picked out the gunrobo toy, even tough a much more suitable toy was available.

really, a gun has no other purpose than to kill things. tanks and planes still have secondary purposes.

True that! Tell 'em Hornet!!
