The foam core board and tape were so simple to work with and so sturdy, I think I may make him some separate armor this way too....If I can find thinner foam core.

Has anybody else constructed anything with foamcore?

You guys might have a really simple way to build an MP OP trialer in an afternoon!

Foamcore is a great cheap and easy alternative to plastic/styrene, in my opinion.  It certainly wont survive being stepped on (but it will survive a long fall :P), but it's quite sturdy for its weight.  It's also easy to paint, as I did one of my Krylon Fusion tests on foamcore and it coats very well.

I was planning on using foamcore to see if I could make a custom trailer for Prime (cut out & assemble some sheets and add printed decals, to test how I'd want to do a styrene version), as well as make a second, sturdier test bodyshell for my custom Bumblebee.

One thing I'd recommend for this project is Tacky glue, or a similar paper/craft glue. You should be able to pick it up cheap at a local craft store.

The trailer looks great, so no disrespect intended, but why does everyone who does this insist on making the "humps" on top of UM's trailer?  I know, G1 had humps, but wouldn't it be better just to have a flat surface like a real car carrier than to have your cars piled up on humps?

thats awesome man! really good job there.

as for using foamcore for MP prime. I'm leaning more towards these trailer models kits testors makes. They look to be the same scale as the Prime toys truck mode. They are meant to go with the testors truck models. There is the standard box type that would make a suitable Prime trailer if painted and some decals added. There is also a tanker so one could make laser primes trailer.

Awesome work still :thumb

I figure you guys are the people to ask.  I'm planning on making me an Optimus Trailer.

I was wondering what you would recommend the dimensions be.

btw, the transformers ruler is pimp.  I would like it to go with my TMNT ruler that's much the same

I made the humps because I wanted the trialer to be in between show and toy accurate.

The Testors trailer is teh cool.

Splendic's trailer is t3h AWESOME!!! :clap

I haven't been too impressed with the Testors trailers I've seen. Most are way too short in height and none have a close enough style to what would look good on Prime.

I'll stick with my eventual plan of making one out of styrene and extra Prime tires. I'm already assembling a 4"x'5"x16" mockup out of foamcore, basically just a sturdier and longer version of the cardboard MP trailer.

Edit: I've *finished* assembling my mockup, as of now.  Kudos to splendic for inspiring me to come down from der smokestack and build that ugly thing. :P

It still needs a door/ramp, hitch and real tires, and I have no clue what I'll do for details other than printing out the stripe. Might just prime it in grey and slap on scanned details on printed paper just to call it finished.
