M.A.S.K. PWN3D G1

Recommended Posts

The M.A.S.K toys were great, I liked having Prime take on the Rhino track and being smashed hard with the battering ram. They were fun toys that would be good as TF's or made as a human faction that hates the Autobots and Decepticons and builds their own machines to attack the TF's at any time.

And the original TMNT cartoon *takes deep breath* suuuuuuuuuuucked.

But AL is totally right about G1. I never watched MASK that much, but there were plenty of other shows out there that were way better than G1. The thing that bugged me the most about G1 wasn't the quality of animation per se - it was the lack of consistency in animation. It drove me crazy. It seemed like they were unable to draw Megatron the same way twice. He-Man or any other Hanna-Barbera cartoon was infinitely better in that regard. Now granted, Hanna-Barbera are the kings of animation recycling, but at least you knew that He-Man was gonna look the same in every episode. The lack of quality control on the G1 series continues to astound me. Look at FFoD - that was the best they could do in 1986 at the height of Transformers' popularity. It was pathetic.

I was about 8-10 years old when G1 originally aired, and I didn't notice/care about these things that bothered you. Perhaps I wasn't a l33t 8-year-old... :P

INDEED.

I was Xbob's age when I started watching G1, and I already had an interest in illustration and graphic arts. So that's where I was coming from. I always felt that there was so much unused potential in terms of the visuals in G1. You only really saw any of that potential realized in TF:TM.

BTW Beast Machines' storyboarding, direction and lighting are all excellent. Just wanted to mention that. :D

BM's lighting sux, just becuse there were no shadows in BW dosn't mean you have to make the next series take plac entierly in the dark

Thank you Xbob. I was referring to more than the presence of shadows. When I said "lighting" I meant "lighting". This is good lighting:

GAH!!!! I didn't relize how Ugly they were when the Maiximals were Drenched in Shaddow *eyes bleed*

Sorry Xbob. Here's something that might be more up your alley:

Tony.

No disagreement from you there Smokescreened. Though I find the TFs infinitely better as toys I spent a great deal of time and money collecting a lot of the M.A.S.K. toys from Ebay several years back. The toys were excellemt for the time though the Split Seconds series was a serious let down in all respects.

Also it's great having dogfights between E Megatron, and Thunderhawk.

tho the quality was better the story as ways seemed the same

1 venom steals old relic to unlock power

2 kid and robot F*** it up some how with out mask knowing

3 mask find out when kid and robot make it clear they f***ed with the relic

4 mask agent helmit thing with the whole power up sh*t goin on

5 they find venom shot at each other with their masks

6 have a car chase

7 kid unlocks power and some how f***s that up

8 venom retreat to fight another day

9 some guy form mask makes all the proplems go away

fill that with racial sterotypes, odd fake chinese saying and thier you have one M.A.S.K episode sorta like UH-GI-OH and Pokemon

at least g1 had a cooler concept and story and that seemed to sell toys back then

And the original TMNT cartoon *takes deep breath* suuuuuuuuuuucked.

I had gone back and watched some of my old TMNT videos and found myself laughing at the jokes. I don't get that much enjoyment even when re-watching my TF tapes.
