M.A.S.K. PWN3D G1

And the original TMNT cartoon *takes deep breath* suuuuuuuuuuucked.

But AL is totally right about G1. I never watched MASK that much, but there were plenty of other shows out there that were way better than G1. The thing that bugged me the most about G1 wasn't the quality of animation per se - it was the lack of consistency in animation. It drove me crazy. It seemed like they were unable to draw Megatron the same way twice. He-Man or any other Hanna-Barbera cartoon was infinitely better in that regard. Now granted, Hanna-Barbera are the kings of animation recycling, but at least you knew that He-Man was gonna look the same in every episode. The lack of quality control on the G1 series continues to astound me. Look at FFoD - that was the best they could do in 1986 at the height of Transformers' popularity. It was pathetic.

TMNT was pretty crappy...at least the movies made up for it.

*crickets chirp*

All right then, I love G1. I will bleed G1 if you cut me deep enough. But the animation for the original series bit ass HARD. I still enjoy watching it, but when you start to look at it with a "critical" eye, then you start to notice that the problems. All through S3, I don't think I ever saw Magnus' mouth close completely whenever he talked. There were good plots, but if you were to pick them up and shake them all the pieces would rattle around and fall out.

I was about 8-10 years old when G1 originally aired, and I didn't notice/care about these things that bothered you. Perhaps I wasn't a l33t 8-year-old... :P

:pfx I didn't care either, I just watched.  When I watch M.A.S.K. or

other old toon now, I still ignore mistakes and bad animation for the

most part. (except for rhino's remastering of G1)

Full disclosure: I went to see the first TMNT movie in the theater when it came out. I was a senior in high school at the time. And I thought it kicked ass. I totally loved it. I even bought the soundtrack with that "Turtle Power" song on it. :redface

As I've said before, if they had shown the new TMNT cartoon back then, I would probably have become a total TMNT addict. The character designs are just awesome, and the toys really captured the look of the show very well.

I was back then. TMNT was decently animated and a lot of fun to both watch and collect.

The first two films are outdated, and campy but are well made for the time and still a lot of fun to occasionally watch. The third was just boring.

Animatronics forevah!!!! :thumb

The first Two TMNT films could have ONLY worked in the 80's and in fact that's how they come across too.

I loved TMNT when I was young...I was 8 when it first came on. The animation was well done, better than some, and had few errors really. It was flat-out entertaining and without a doubt enjoyable for an 8-10 year old. The toys are also awesome for the time as well.

But the comics are really what sealed the deal for me on the Turtles. The first few years of the comics are very cool and very over-the-top. It's just great fun reading them. Plus the grittiness and darkness of the comics' black and white art was awesome.

One reason why the New TMNT toys are so good is they are just like the old but stylized just a bit more and given better articulation.

As long as we're on the subject...

Everytime I watch that movie, I always hear Leo's disjointed "Splin. Ter." as his lips move in some odd-ass direction.

What was this discussion originally about anyway?

As a Mask fan I've seen all the episodes and it seems that, as in a lot of 80's american cartoons, a basic plot had been chosen to be used in most episodes.

Venom was often looking for some ancient treasure protected by a secret door and an elaborate mechanism.

I wonder what was the goal of this, Creating a routine for the viewers?

Who was in charge of choosing the theme and in the case of Mask why did they choose that one?

i thought most toons in the 80's were great (since i was 5 in '83)

TF was the best He-Man was next after that who knows  I did like jace & the wheeled warriors  :thumb

Jaycee and the Wheeled Warriors ROCKED!  I like that you could switch parts from all the vehicles from one to the next and create new vehicles.  I think a J&WW revival is past due.

As for M.A.S.K, I definitely enjoyed it.  As my family wasn't very well off, I bought many of my toys myself (paper route money).  Consequently more GI Joe figs than anything else.  The holidays though, brought me the big TF's and M.A.S.K toys.  I had a friend with the Volcano Gas Station playset and most of the big stuff.  Very high play value all around.
