Grimlock and Prime

Recommended Posts

I always thought that Grimlock and prime were brothers of sort. Sure at first Grimlock was stupid but as time wnt on he become more intelligent and a great strategist. In gen 2 i noticed that prime and grimlock had a connection of sorts something i never saw with Magnus. i know there is a lot of transformers professionals on this forum and have been keeping up with thimgs constantly. i on the othe hand am trying to get back into the mix of things, so my statement maybe dismissed by something that i don't know about. But for now my opinion is that prime and Grimlock seem to have a deeper connection tha prime and Magnus , plus Grimlock seems to be better leader, a tke control of the situation right now, never give up kind of bot.

SIDENOTE: In the movie one thing that really dissapointed me about Magnus is when he tried opening the Matrix on Junk planet. How could that have possibly been the autobots Darkest hour, when he knew that the was planet destroyer out there killing off planets, magnus was on erath when he recieved the transmission from Moon Base 1. Now wouldnt he think that if there is something out there so massive to destroy whole moon base, how could he think just because he was conoered by Galvatron and his goons would be thier darkest hour? :tfhuh

I guess if it is G-1 cartoon continuity we are talking about then... who knows. There was such little character development that it was hard to tell anything from one show to the next. But if we are talking comics, then magnus and prime have refered to each other as "brother" while grimlock has gone as far as to betray the autobots (show and comic). If they have a connection it is that both have face plates. the end

I never thought Grimlock was stupid; just had a speech impediment.

Grimlock is definitely not Prime's brother. In the toon he was created from scratch and in the comics (DW WW) he doesn't know, trust, or like optimus prime.

well in the comics Grimlock is given command by Prime after he dies. He does a pretty good job I would say...although it wasn't very conventional leadership.

For the record, I like Ultra Magnus. But I also enjoy making fun of him. :) What a Matrix choker. Of course it wouldn't open. It was his darkest hour, not the Transformers'. :tfevil

It would actually have been interesting if Grim got the Matrix...you know he would probably NEVER open it unless it was really really really bad. His pride on beating things with his own hands...alone...would never allow a "junkeon" situation.

I really like Gim. I was very disapointed that he most of the g1 toon in t-rex mode. he had one bad-ass bot mode.

You guys are confusing cartoon continuity with comic continuity. In the G1 cartoon, Grimlock and the other Dinobots were created on earth. They were also very unintelligent, they served as the comic relief.

I prefer the Grimlock of comic continuity, who is a native of Cybertron. In the comic, both Marvel and DW, Grimlock is just as intelligent as the average TF. He just happens to have a viral glitch in his speech processors, resulting in his speech impediment. Which often times causes his opponents to underestimate him. Also, in the comic he is the only Dinobot with said speech impediment. The other dinobots also have average intelligence and speak normally.

Grimlock did indeed become leader after Prime died in the G1 Marvel comic, but he wasn't a very good leader. It wasn't until the Unicron saga that he reached his true potential. Then in the G2 comic, he served as lieutenant commander of the Autobots, Prime's second-in-command. Other than that, there is no special connection between Optimus and Grimlock. There is a deep connection between the two by the time G2 takes place, but nothing more. They are merely "brothers" in arms, having since gained a better understanding and respect for each other. We discussed this in another thread, but Grimlock would not make a good leader. His role as lieutenant commander is perfect for him, he gets the job no matter what. He gets results, and he doesn't care how. But that is why he should not lead instead of Prime, because unlike Prime he lacks compassion for his enemies. To Prime, killing is a last resort. To Grimlock, the ends justify the means. Just read his profile.

I just wanted to throw this one out there... How was it possible to create the Constructacons and Dinobots? If the logic behind Beast Wars/Machines held true for the G1 series, does that mean that someone had to give up part of their spark? If Optimus had to give up part of his to make Grimlock, then that would surely make them brothers. :)
