GD-05 gasket flaw

OKAA~AAAAY!

Here's FreedomGundam's quick tutorial on how to fix up Cybertron Ransack's rear wheel.  (note: the Ransack in the pictures already had its wheel assemblies swapped.  I just took the figure for mock-ups of the procedure.  That's why I don't have before-and-after pictures.)

1) For starters, here's what I used: small a hollow screwdriver (a thin metal pipe will do too), a thin broken drill bit (a thin nail might also work), a pair of pliers.  I also used a large sheet of foam, but I usually have that at my kitbashing table.

2) Plant the screwdriver into the foam padding, so that it stands up.

3) Place Ransack's leg-part on top of the hollow section of the screwdriver.  You can opt to pop out the ball-joint at his knee to not have to drag him around.  I found it easier just to prop up his body at a comfortable height with some random items lying around (I think I might've used parts from an Alt Prowl that I'm kitbashing to support him...  :redface)

4) Place drill-bit/nail at the pin, like in the picture.  Usually, the threaded side will be flush with the plastic, while the non-threaded end of the pin will be slightly recessed into the plastic.  The nail should be going at the recessed end (you'll have to figure it out, one of mine was threaded-side-up, while the other leg was threaded-side-down...)

5) Supporting Rasack, the nail, and the hollow-thing, gently tap the nail with whatever you're using (pliers, hammer, etc).  I tend to use my pliers to do the job.  If the pin pops out entirely, good.  If not, take your pliers, and gently pull them out (sometimes requiring a light twisting motion).

6) Swap wheel assemblies, and place the pins back, non-threaded-end first, and clamp them in with the pliers.

7) And there you go!  A low-profile Ransack!

I understand that.

My problem is, the leg is not flat. And the vise or grip won't hold down on it properly/straight while also holding down on the desk or table.

I could lie the leg on its flat side, but then the pin would be facing left and right....which would defeat the purpose of the clamp/vise because you'd be hitting sideways.

Erm... most vises, from my experience, open vertically, not sideways.  I certainly didn't have any of the problems you're thinking of with the table vise that I used.  You sure you're not just thinking of an ordinary clamp?

I meant that it opens vertically. I was talking about the leg being horizontal. Sorry for the misunderstanding. And as far as thinking of an ordinary clamp, I may be. I don't know the difference between clamps and vises..... :tfhuh

And thank you sooooo much for the pics, FreedomGundam!!! It definitely helps to see it visually. I must be hitting my pin from the wrong side, as I've hit it pretty hard, and it hasn't even budged.

Thanks again, man. I truly appreciate it.  :thumb

A vise is usually bolted down to a worktable or wall or something, and is a much sturdier piece of equipment, meant for getting a really solid grip on an object.  Clamps are portable, hand-held tools, usually meant to hold objects together.

I can't fix mine. Is there any being sold on ebay that's fixed?

*wants to cheat*

Fixed him long ago, but I do notice him to be less stable now in bot mode then he was before.

i tried the vice (dad's got one attached to a barstool) and ended up almost scratching the Powerglide out of his leg, that and i got stress marks on the red loop that the pin is in.  any tips for not scratching it?  i tried putting a rag between the two ends of the vice and the toy, but it just caused the piece to slip regardless of how much i tightned it (i thought i did it too much at one point kuz i couldn't get it loose, lol).

If you tap it (lightly enough) from the correct side using my method above, there's virtually no scratching.

Use a paper towel instead.  It serves as enough padding to prevent scratching, but it's thin enough that the vise still grips it.
