What's more important in a Transformer?

Recommended Posts

There are so many diffferent kinds of collectors now; crazy insane completists, people who only do the cars, or even a specific kind of car, people who only want G1 or G2, or even just the toys of characters from the movie, and EVEN those who only collect all the possible variations of one particular dude.

So what makes you like one toy or character over another? Does a character's Tech Specs or character/performance in the shows or movie influence your liking of the toy? Will you get a guy who doesn't really look so good because you relate to his Tech Specs data? What's the driving force of your appreciation of or desire for a particular figure, or line of figures?

I would love it if people had time to discuss the eccentricities of their collections and what made them come about. Who do you keep in a storage box and who's in the carefully set up display? Why don't you collect [whatever] and only get [whatever] instead? Who did you break the rule for and why?

If you find it mostly has to do with the properties of the toy itself and not anything to do w/ the show/comic character, I'd like your feedback in this other topic too.

Being in the UK means I have to take what I can find and afford, TF's here aren't easy to come by. In general though, I don't know why I collect TF's in the way I do, I love vehicle ones while I avoid animal ones because I have a fondness for toy cars. I've little interest in how rare a TF is, as long as it's available here.

I generally love the toy first, then anything that happens in a comic or cartoon just adds more depth too the toy. So basically, ill collect any cool transformer I see, im not too picky. I do prefer vehicles to beasts though.

This isnt how I felt as a kid though, I'd see a character saturday morning then beg my parents too get me him all week :)

Well, when I'm going for a toy, it's for no reason other than how cool I think the toy itself is. If the character is really bad in the show, that won't take anything away from the toy, for me.

i only collect g1 reissues and the alts

but on occasion i buy outside of the lines

unicron

e megatron

hoc

it all really comes down to quality

I am a G1 collector.

I would have to say that screen time in the cartoon or comics helps up the desire to buy a certain character.

The More Than Meets the Eye guides helped increase the want to buy certain characters that were not in the cartoon or came past the time of the cartoon. I don't speak for everyone, but I believe a lot of people find some characters cooler than they used to be because of MTMTE.

I stick with teh vehicles mostly, but I'm also a fan of articulation so Armada started to rub me the wrong way and I was given the Energon Hot Shot and amazed by how little you could do with it. As Energon continues if it starts looking like there are more figs that i can put in cool poses I'll get them, but taht's just me.

:wtf The figure/vehicle modes have to be sweet or whats the point (other than collecting) of buying horrible looking toys. Let's say you think Omega Supreme's the greatest...you buy him, put him together, he can barely move and by the time you get him back into tank/rocket mode the war between Autobots and Decepticons (in your mind) has been over for years.

i'd buy everyone if i could afford it cause it's the greatest toy line ever
