I mean... is there a reason they'd be required that is official and good?  I can see Has/Tak of course would love to get some female fans in on the franchise, that's a given... but story wise, I don't think they've ever really barked up that tree.

Hot Rod, Arcee, Springer love interest?  Nah... what's the point, I mean they don't "reproduce" by the standard means, and thankfully Transformers and sexuallity... well, just don't work.

...

Still, I would have liked to see more female Transformers.  The idea of Energon Arcee as a motorcycle was great, and I think in Cybertron they should make a few more sleek designs that are for female Transformers.

... I know in Beast Wars there was a female Transforming Spider... what was her story, and how did they work off it?  I've still yet to see BW so I don't know.  Relationship development is usually seen in the action genre... what are the possibilities they totally skip on it for TFTM2006... or will they maybe just focus on Spike and Carly to get this angle in?

*enters serious mode*..... yes i have one :grr

Anyway, believe it or not, it is almost impossible for the human mind (as it is today) to concieve of a SENTIENT asexual race. We seem to be unable to come up with a pronoun other than He, She, Him, Her.... Even though the TFs like Optimus Prime and Megatron sound all manly, are they really a Male version of the species?

more to the point, if Transformers are created and not "birthed" then there is no physical reproduction process within the species. So there is really no males or females.

The reason for an Arcee or a Black Arachnia (despite the marketing angle) is probably just a programming difference between them and the "male" tfs resulting in what we consider femanine like qualiteis.

To me female bodies were constructed more-or-less to give it a more humanoid feel to the mechanical races. Like if you follow the G1 Cartoon, the females were made once in a while to provide sales to those races that wanted females in their home and such. So from there it originally began, but even so it was a rare thing.

Then as time progressed and TF's became sentient...I've always considered TF Females to be a spark and programming selection. Like the Lasercore/Spark chooses the sex before the body comes into play and then after the selection is made, the body is made to fit that Spark and then programming is added to make it more feminine. And I'm sure as time went on and the TF's became much more sentient they became longing for a companion which I'm sure added to the apparent need of female companionship. But whose to say they didn't find companionship from there comrades. But if they were following the examples of other races/species in the universe then two sexes would be the largest number of couples.

Also as the Cartoons have shown many shuttles left Cybertron at the start of the

war, so with the near extinction of the females from the Decepticons/War itself and the fact many probably left at the start of the war...female construction was probably pushed to an all-time low. So this would explain with the small amount of the females to begin with.

Hope I added something to the discussion...

On the most obvious level, it's just anthropomorphism to make the characters seem more relatable. Every TF has either a male or female "personality," despite the fact that they are all technically asexual beings (at least I hope so...).

So if you're going to actually ask "why?", you need to start with the fact that most TFs have male characteristics. Once you figure that out, then the female TF issue becomes a lot easier to answer.

P.S. A friend of mine's band once did an instrumental song called "The Ballad of Optimus and Elita-1." It was a shika-shika 60's lounge piece. Nice. :tfgrin

P.P.S. Blackarachnia is one of the best TF characters EVAH.

I agree, Blackarachnia is one of the best. Remember Elita 1 in

"The Search for Alpha Trion"? She kicked a**. Female characters

are great, and I wish there were more included in the toons.

No matter what show is on tv there are usually male & females.

It is easy for the viewers to identify with both male & female

characters.

Eh, Arcee I could have done without... (Her transformation into Angst-Ridden Arcee in the Wreckers comics was hysterical tho.)

All I know is that with something like a 150:1 ratio of 'male' to 'female' transformers, the dating possibilities are quite unenviable if your last name isn't 'Prime.'

Iironically, Arcee was never rleased in G1 as Hasbro didnt think she would sell to boys.

This seems ironic to me as Transformer cartoons were meant to promote the toys and Aarcee got quite a lot of airtime in the movie and TV shows for a non-toy character, even when new TFs, like te Headmasters were introduced, there she was, along with them.
