Alternator Skids - Work in Progress

Recommended Posts

Hey all, here's an in-progress pic of the head for my custom Alternator Skids. It's pretty obviously based off the head for Alternator Smokescreen, which I have modified by using a small X-Acto saw blade to trim off the horns and chinpiece. I have also painted the crest silver.

There's some work left to be done, mainly paint touch-ups, but so far I'm pretty happy with this. I may do some further mods to the sides of the helmet, but I haven't decided yet.

Let me know what you think!

Here's the body so far. I wanted to give Skids a different arm transformation to set him apart from Smokescreen. I decided to reverse the arms so the tires face forward, which actually looks a bit like the screws on the front shoulders of the G1 Skids toy. The red forearms came from an Alt Silverstreak who donated his head to another project I'm working on.

After I reversed the joints at the elbows, though, I found that I couldn't transform the arms properly. I solved this by cutting notches into the back of each elbow joint with my X-Acto saw blade to match those on the front of the elbow.

Looks good so far, Chris. I'm VERY interested to see how this turns out!

As this next pic shows, I'm just leaving him as a Subaru WRC. I've stripped all the racing decoration from Smokescreen and I'll be putting on the red & white G1 Skids pinstriping when it's all said and done.

The new arm trtansformation works! The only problem here is that the engine mount posts now lie under the car, so I won't be able to mount the engine/gun under the hood unless I do some further modifications. But I'm making all custom weapons for this figure, so I don't think any of them would fit under the hood anyway.

Thanks, Wraith! This is pretty much the first kitbash I've really done, and I'm quite happy with how it's turning out so far.

One last one for now, I just wanted to show the underneath of the car to illustrate what I meant about the engine mount posts. I have the steering rack off for now just to make is easier to work with - not sure if I'll bother reinstalling it.

Unless the steering feature is of value to you, i'd leave it off. it's just going to become an annoyance.

Looks very good.

I agree with Wraithverge, just leave the steering mechanism out but do find some way to block the wheels so they don't go swinging in all direction.

Love to see pics when Skids is finished.

The First one is Usually the toughest, But yours looks to be Shaping Up well.

Definitely keep us posted with Progress-pics. I'm looking forward to the finished Piece.

looks great so far, can't wait for the finished product!
