I went with energon, since the Decepticon sticker on the chest is more G1-ish.

Energon Galvatron. The face/head are much better than SL Galvatron G.

Here are the areas where E Galvy is a better homage to G1 Galvy:

 

face (silver not light blue/purple)

upper arm (purple not gray)

lower arm (purple not black)

elbow joint (silver not that light blue/purple color)

abs (red on silver not just red)

waist (belt goes all the way around)

upper leg (painted thigh guards)

lower leg (silver not black)

feet (black w/ silver tops not black

 

also like GZ said, the 'Con symbol should be outlined.

Energon version. If you look at the plate on his stomach area, you will see that they broke up the color scheme into red AND silver, instead of the one solid red of SL Galvy. Also, the purple on the shoulders and arms and the grayish silver color of the tank match G1 Galvy more accurately than the black and gray (on the shoulders & arms) and purple (tank) on SL Galvy.

 

Both figures are nice, and both are homages, but the Energon version is the more accurate depiction of G1 Galvatron. The SL version seems to be a looser homage to him and more show accurate.

 

Personally (homage aside), I like the darker colors of the Energon version more.

Energon galvatron is better painted, also more accurate to both G1 toy and series galvy.

 

 

And he also has a grey tank while superlink has A PURPLE TANK. Who in blazes has ever seen a purple tank.

Yeah I'm going to have to agree that Energon Galvatron is a better G1 homage.

 

The Super Link Galvy has the Light Urple face that just doesn't quite look right. SL Galvy is more show-accurate (Superlink, not Energon).

 

But as far as overall color scheme, I don't think that shade of purple on either of them is correct for the main G1 Galvy color. Of course it varies from the movie to Season 3, but I believe his was more of a midnight blue/purple mix.

As well as being bigger, the Energon version looks like it has a more detailed paint scheme. Neither is 100% accurate, but the Energon version does the source material better justice.
