Masterpiece Convoy / 20th OP appreciation thread

Recommended Posts

I know what you're thinking, "OMFG ANOTHER MP CONVOY THREAD!!!" but bare with me :D

It has been almost a year since we greasy fan boys got our hands on this magnificent toy. And back then it was all we could talk about. Every five seconds a new thread would pop up about him. Well in what will probably be the last MP Convoy/20th Prime thread, i just wanted everyone to take a minute and relive that moment when you got home and found him waiting on the step, fresh from Hong Kong, or when you found him gleaming on the shelf at your local toy shop. The excitement you felt when you opened him for the first time, and said, "OMFG, This is the best Transformer ever!"

Here's to you Masterpiece/20th Prime :thumb

He's one of the few TFs that was literally awe-inspiring when I finally found him. Even my wife was like, "dang, that really is pretty cool." 'Cause you know how sometimes it's more exciting that you found something than it is to actually have the figure itself? Not this time. And I think his weight adds to the general aura. Heavy toys = cool. :thumb

And plus if I ever decide to get those repro'd long smokestacks, I can have the best of both worlds. :clap

Incredibly, he was also voted toy of the year at ToyBoxDX, and they're primarily a "non-transformers" giant robots site. In fact, they usually hate just about everything that has to do with Transformers. The die-cast content helped immensely, and so did the fabulous transformation and cool gimmicks. Just a great figure overall, despite the weird problems with feet popping off.

Now if I only could get my local Wally Marts to lower their price below the now rediculous $58 for an item they still have 15 of sitting on the shelf... :redface

MP Convoy has the long stacks and doesn't look like he's been slopping the pigs... ;)

Bets toy evah

I'm not much of a "fan boy", but he's pretty bleeping great. Besides the Alternators, he's the only Transformer I've bought in years.

Now a sad story ... I was in my local Wal-Mart the other day which hasn't had 20th OP in a couple of months I figure. Suddenly there was one on the shelf ... but upon closer inspection it had been returned. He was missing his cannon and the matrix and was just hanging out loosely in his packaging (I can't imagine actually being able to repackage him). Such a heartbreak. I still took him to the scanner just in case I had missed a huge markdown previously, but it still rang up as $63.xx. A couple of days later, there was another on the shelf, but this one was new.

It is the crown of my collection and when I took it along to my favourite hang out place even the non fans had to say he was an awesome figure. (Note he was never here in the stores.)

The three major changes between 20th Anny Prime and MP Convoy (though really, they're all relatively minor) were the "battle damage," the smokestacks, and the gun color. (I'm not counting the paper trailer because... well, come on. It's like, paper.) The gun was a no-brainer for me -- everyone knows it's black; I have no idea why Takara, a company known for being sticklers about "show accuracy," would have decided to make Prime's gun gray. Also, I liked the battle damage look, because it was subtle enough not to stick out (I honestly don't even notice it) and it adds a lot of nice visual texture to the figure. As for the smokestacks... well, I decided that I'd be willing to trade long stacks for a black gun and $30.00.

I have also had non-fans admire my 20th Prime. Some friends of mine were over once and they oohed and aahed when they saw him. It was weird to me that they all knew who he was. But then I guess that's the ultimate test of whether or not a TF is iconic enough to warrant a "Masterpiece" version.

I can't appreciate 20th Prime because I've never seen him in a store to purchase one! And yes, I'm very bitter about this. Can anybody help me out? Preferably one less than $60, as most of my funds have gone and are going to go to gifts for people for Christmas.

The holy Grail of Transformers.
