WIP Classics Skywarp

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

I thought it was time to complete the seeker collection (without killing my wallet for a skywarp). So I'm making one of my own out of a universe 2.0 Starscream.

I'm doing it in matte black (Revel acrylic paint), but the paint is very fragile. So I was wondering if you guys had any tips about what kind of coating I should put on (if possible without making it too shiny).

Games Workshop have a matt balck undercoat spray that is great for this sort of thing. The only part you can't really use it on is the nosecone, as it's made from rubber and will go brittle and break. That's cause by the propellant in all spray cans, which eats at rubber basically

Otherwise I'd suggest just buying one of those new High quality KO's of Skywarp from KOtoys.com They're affordable and Ive not heard anything bad about them yet

Hope this helps

nothing you put OVER the paint job is really going to help it adhere to the plastic under the paint job. In the future, I suggest prepping your figures for paint (high grit sand paper, cleaning, etc) as well as using a strong plastic adhering paint (I prefer lacquers and enamels) Krylon also makes some paints specifically made for plastic adhesion, called "fusion"

Well there you go. I'm nt going to argue with Frenzy_Rumble, as he definitely knows what he's talking about when it comes to repainting Tfs. :tflaugh

Thanks guys. I think I'm gonna remove it and try using that coat sparkless was talking about, since I already sanded and cleaned the figure.

edit: I'm sorry Frenzy-rumble , i should've said that the paint has no trouble sticking to the plastic. The paint just scratches very easily and I wanted to protect it.

thing is you can coat your paint with steel, but if it's not holding well to the plastic, it will scratch off. Imagine laying the strongest paint or substance in the world to a sheet of smooth material. it would slide right off, not matter what was protecting the top of it. The "trick" is bonding the paint to the plastic. Scuffing up the plastic and good paint will help that.
