I almost didn't buy the Protector armor, but it really does look better in person.

I ordered it, and if I don't like it I'm blaming both of you! :P

Since you are just going to buy the kit anyways, why don't you just see how you like it before you make your decision about Classics or the flames.

Sound like you are doing what I did. I am just using it with my BiS Rodimus I did paint the wheels and his cannon black, The gray was killing me but I also painted the windshield. I mixed some cobalt and dark blue with some silver and I think it came out pretty good. BUT keep looking you may luck out. I found a MSOC Classics Rodimus for 45.00 on fleabay. So you never know what you may find.

Okay, this will come off mixed, but I have the classics and the BiS Rodimuses. (I love the character and the mold.) I've tried both, and yeah the red meshes much better with classics Rod. That's the one I usually use with protector.

 

But the BiS Rodimus still looks pretty good. I use the chrome wings with him, and think it looks fine. For me, the problem was vehicle mode. with BiS Rod, it's obvious that the "cab" is one color and the "trailer" is another, emphasizing they are two separate pieces. But when armored, it doesn't bother me, because the two-tone red is meshed all the way through, and I think it looks good.

 

Ultimately, I guess I'd say of I were in your position, I'd just be happy using BiS Rodimus. Spending big bucks looking for the earlier release, (especially since buying protector and Sidearm costs a little over a hundred dollars, [and yes, do get side arm, it adds immeasurably to the set!]) is just not worth it too me.

 

And ultimately, I really don't like any of the repolabels sets. Okay, so the tech detail set is one I MAY get and only use some of it, but ugh. They screwed up the the flame pattern sets. both the "realistic" flames and the "integration set" flames look ugly as sin to me. And it's a shame, because an "integration set" is a good idea in theory for people in your position, but I think repo really fumbled the ball on this one.

I don't know what a "left left" is, but all the attachments on mine are nice and tight.
