Repair work on Fortress X

I figured I'd have some fun with the camera while I took the time to swap parts on my Fortress X's. I have a boxed and complete Fortress X that fell off a shelf many years ago and broke the shoulder off. Came across a junker in pretty good shape but missing parts BUT had a good shoulder I could swap so I snagged it.

Fortunately the spring loaded insides did not go flying apart when I took out the 11 screws that holds it in place. The front is 2 HUGE die-cast metal parts that are just so impressive they used several LBS worth! With great care I was able to pull it apart just enough to twist out the left shoulder and swap them. Back together and good as new!

While I was at it, I figured I'd do some side by side shots of the X's, and threw in Omega Supreme and GRB, will give ya a nice size comparrison.

For those who don't know, Fortress X is one of the Diaclone base transforming robots, though as you can see it's not such a fantastic transform. You might notice some elements of Fortress Maximus, maybe a little scorponok in there as well. The feet will launch a couple tanks with spring loaded pushers, has rocket punch, er hand gun ship launch, and a unique elevator system that can take a little Diaclone Driver inside a little yellow box up his left leg, and then into the control room. From there you can push it out the emergency ramp to his hip, down to the other tank in the right foot, or into either one of the hand jet things.

Enjoy!

Ah you lucked out there! I think the last thing I tried to fix ended with me taking a peice off and hearing a "ting" sound from across the room... Oh noes. Anyways, Fortress X and Great Robo Base are a lot bigger than I imagined!

That's why it's good to have a cat around. If something goes shooting across the room and you missed it, which seems to be EVERY time, you just look where the cat is looking and you'll find your flying parts. :P

Sold on the cat idea or getting a Fortress X? X does not need a litter box, stays where you put it (unless it decides to take a long walk off a short shelf like mine did) and doesn't have vet bills (unless, again it falls off a shelf and breaks off a shoulder that you need to buy a junker to replace the broken bits).

I might make a little review and post on face book, I forget most people doesn't know how big it is and the elevator system is pretty cool. Seeing this toy in action would probably make most wonder how much cooler Max would have been if some of these elements, like the foot launchers, were followed through with.
