Storing your TF's

Recommended Posts

Thought I would put this out there for those of you like me who have moved, are moving, ETC. I usually pack up my TF's individually in bubble wrap then several to a box and then go from there. I was some what in a rush and packed up my HA series of bots in a box with packing peanuts and called it good. Not so much it turns out.

I unpacked them last night and HA Sideswipe had some issues. The styrofoam peanuts had been interacting with his rubbery blades and hip joints connectors. They had melded/slightly melted to them and pulling them off resulted in them leaving styro-gunk on them. I was able to clean it away but I have no idea what the long term effects will be, anything from discoloration, degradation or hopefully nothing at all. Luckily since there was no parts like that on the rest that I own* everything else was safe.

So, heads up to those that do storage on the newer figures with that kind of rubbery plastic.

*The dork twins are not allowed in my collection in any format.

I only use bubble wrap and thepopcorn

Sheesh, I must had gotten very hot for them to do that! O_O

man I feel your Pain. Due to my wifes Job. We have moved 4 time in the last year and are currently moving again. I have yet to unpack my Tfs from the last move in Jan. What I do know is put each Transformers in those ziplock bags then into the box with peanuts. They help keep it more organized that way. I figure one day Ill get to take out my tfs .

Most packing peanuts nowadays are not styrofoam, but biodegradable. Any kind of prolonged moisture (including 'sweat' or humidity in the box) will cause the peanuts to 'melt' or biodegrade. This is what looks like happened in your case. Bubble wrap is definitely the way to go.

I've always strategically placed them in baggies on top of each other, only wrapping those with high breakage or flaking potential. So far so good. Of course they go in those giant rubbermaid tubs and get plenty of stacking clearance on the top.

I use ziplock bags to ensure all accessories stay with the figures and bubble wrap. Then I tape a post-it note on the box listing exactly what TFs are where. My wife was in the Navy so we moved a lot. Most are still in boxes/storage.

Nope, was just in the box on a shelf in the bedroom we sleep in. Never got hotter than about 75-76 in there.

I usually do something of that nature. Bubble wrap each one til I run out, then plastic bags after that. Then they got boxed according to faction/size. My MP's are usually put back in their respective boxes or are wrapped and placed in a box on their own since they are a little more prone to damage than say deluxes or voyager classes.
