Alternity Convoy

Recommended Posts

So, I had already bought Alternity Megatron a couple months back, and was only mildly impressed. The way the body collapsed in on itself was neat, but the car mode was kind of floppy and the robot legs were frustrating and crappy. Also, the shoulder pads were large, kibblerific, and unwieldy, despite looking cool.

So a couple days ago Alternity Convoy (the black version) came in the mail. While I'm a little disappointed that he doesn't have more of the teal blue on him (seriously, his abdomen, forearms and his thighs should have had teal highlights), he's far superior. He pegs in all over the place in each mode and his legs are super solid (the only issue with the legs is that the logo on the trunk that only sticks to one side when you split the legs kept one of his legs from folding down into place all the way, which I fixed by shaving that stub off). His shoulder pads look way more awesome than Megatron's and don't get in the way nearly so much. He also has more ratchets and his abdomen doesn't just friction together, which is how Megatron's abdomen works, his actually clips in. Oh, and the Automorph doesn't ever jam, which is something that happened when I first tried to transform Megatron back into a car. Overall, Convoy is far easier to transform because parts don't constantly crash into each other and yet I feel like I'm doing so much more. The only issue with my Convoy that Megatron doesn't have is that my Convoy's chest doesn't like to peg together solidly, which isn't really an issue since the shoulders keep them in place well enough.

I'm super impressed with Convoy and I feel Takara really dropped the ball with Megatron by comparison. If Megatron had come out first, I could appreciate the two figures as a well thought out evolution of the line, but no. Megatron just ripped off Convoy's transformation scheme while throwing out the pegs and locks that made Convoy work so well, and added a whole shitload of annoying things, like the skirt and the shoulder pads.

Silver, teal, anything to breakup the void-ish black.

I still want to check a convoy out, to see the awesome (so i hear) engineering on them. carry on ...

Megatron blows. Convoy rocks. Skip Megatron. Also, the engineering's... Good, but it has some odd drawbacks. You'll see when you get Convoy.

I have the red and black Alternity Convoy toys. I can't imagine owning the silver one, it looks so boring. Anyway, I did get some paint scratched off on my black Convoy. They are small paint scratches, more like scrapes really, at the back end of the roof. The roof is painted clear plastic.

Megatron is nice enough. I have the blue and black Megatron. I got black Megatron on sale last year at TFSource. Like Convoy, I think the silver Megatron is very boring, despite being an accurate color for Megatron.

I think the gray looks nice on Convoy's alt mode, but the robot mode is just BLAAAAHHH. Also, the gray shows off every singly panel line.

Unfortunately, my Alternity Magnus didn't live up to Alternity Convoy despite of coming from the same mold. I'm disappointed! Darn it.....agrrrrrrr! What a beautiful design in both mode, I just got screwed. This video will say it all:

My Alternity Magnus Video

I think you might have gotten a defected one, but to be sure has anyone else gotten Alternity Magnus and had this problem?

I've been thinking about buying it

Yeah, one other poster from TFW2005, got the same issue as mine. Buy he resolved his by using a clear dry super glue to tighten up the joint.
