What do my fellow Transfans think?

Recommended Posts

I certainly wouldn't recommend selling them it they make you happy. But, I gotta say, if I were in your situation, I'd do whatever I could to get my own place...including making some difficult sacrifices.

I don't mean to preach, but don't let the fact that you are single at 26 bother you. It just adds to the pile of crap that you already heave upon yourself. We all get lonely for companionship(and other warm, curvy perks...sigh). I think that that is one preconception that needs to be grown-out-of by society. If it makes you feel any better, I'm turning 30 at the end of the month and I'm nowhere near getting married, although I'm completely able to.

Just know that alot of people have been where you are...I've worked every crappy job you could name, but my persistance paid off...and I've achieved mad versatility and never cease to learn. I feel oddly lucky that in this time of economic hardship that I'm actually doing great(don't mean to brag or anything, just citing an example). I may not like my job(but how uncommon is that anymore...really?)...I find it boring and tedious and most of the people I work with just suck to be around(plus I just hate getting up at 5am). But I appreciate it and see it as a stepping stone to further oppurtunities, like my goal of becoming a university professor. As I get older I'm starting to see even hardship as an oppurtunity to thicken my skin and strenthen my resolve.

Hang in there. You would be suprised at your potential. Take it from a West Virginia native (who is used being told that I'm nothing but white trash and will never amount to anything...suckers!!), I worked hard to pay for my degree and moved to a city like Detroit while I was green as a bean and naive as a child. I'm alot tougher than I was 5 years ago. You will be too.

Good luck. :thumb

At times it sucks being single but it definetely has its perks.

I can do what I want when I want. :tflaugh No need to ask my partner anything. :tftongue

Let's face it, if there is one thing that women are good at, it is whining about pretty much anything. They also bring up unimportant crap at the least innapropriate times. Makes me wish they came with an off button. (Or at least a mute one.) :tfevil

Right now I am not even looking. The experiences that I have had with women (and those are not many) are all bad and I do not need another bad experience.

As for a job, I have had my share of crappy jobs. The problem in the city I live in that there is very little industry. The industry that needs people often employs yonger people (who are cheaper) or the works requires me to stand all day or lift heavy stuff.

I am not disabled or anything but I am not 100% healthy. I am a borderline case and for me finding a job is a little trickier than for most people.

But who knows where life may lead me.

My collection is rather important to me so I would not sell it unless I really had to. Fortunately I am not at that junction just yet. :tfgrin

Well, better get back to work. Need to finish reordering my Transformers collection.

well do what you think is best for you

i don't think you are a looser, i spent almost 2 years finding a job, now i got a good one, and i'm alot higher educated you, It's still crisis in europe, just nobody is willing to admit it.

i sold a part of my collection to pay for new stuff, which did the job fine

as for the single side, alot of single people these days, don't know how it is in the north but 80% of my friends are girl-or boyfriendless, including my spendid self (but i'm not your average easy person to live with :clap )

Thanks BWmegatron.

It is quite true. There is a huge crisis here and it is affecting everyone. As a archivist with only basic training, things are not easy. But according to War Within Optimus was just an archivist and he became the best Autobot ever. :tftongue

Do not really keep tabs on things but I think there are plenty of single people here. And like you I am not easy to live with at times.

Hehe...yeah. It certainly isn't as cut-and-dry as it was fifty years ago.

Not to turn this into the cynical-frustrated male thread but I'll make a few comments about it.

Two words: Control freaks. Somewhere along the development of the male-female relationship "compromise" became "sacrifice". Mutual give-and-take somehow vanished. I have no idea where it went. Patience and understanding are now seen as weaknesses to be exploited. Honesty is seen as either meanness or naivete. These types of women have become masters of the convenient double-standard.

But they are not all this way. I talk frequently to another 30-yr-old collector in my town, but he is married and has a great wife. They are both schoolteachers. Just recently he told me that she found Alt Tracks, Meister, and SilverStreak, AND...she knew his hobby well enough that she had the wherewithal to pick up one each of the new Gestalt limbs when she saw them. She is very cool(they came over to hang for a minute last weekend). I'm certain he's into her just as much. Now that is a relationship we could all hope for.

I'll end with great response to an angry letter recently received by the Playboy Advisor(forgive the paraphrase, but the woman wrote something like "Real men will concede and understand the woman's point of view.").

The Advisor responds: "Real women get over themselves."

Now a matra of mine.

Take care.

Like everyone else here says, just don't worry about being single. It's one of those things where half the people who are single want to not be single, and half those who aren't single want to be single. At least sometimes anyway! More importantly is that you have a decent social life, as life can get pretty depressing without that.

Don't worry about still living with your parents - I'm doing my postgrad degree and living off a parental loan at the moment - but you can't go spending money on frivolities like TFs and games.. especially if you live in Holland, where I expect TFs are quite pricey.. have to get money off your parents too - I'm surprised they haven't opened up a big ol' can of whuppass on you quite frankly. The money the state gives you is meant to be spent on essentials - remember that other people actually have to work for their tax euros to pay for that - and sometime you're going to want that money for something else anyway, like a car or the deposit for somewhere to live.

And to be fair, the money your parents spent on going to see the musical was money they earned. And they'll likely remember seeing the musical for many years to come, as it's something really special. If you've already got a few hundred TFs, Energon Omega Supreme really is just another TF. A big one, but just another one all the same.

Just go take ANY job you can get - it'll make getting a job you actually want a lot easier, it'll make your parents happier because you're not using their money, it'll give you a better sense of self worth as you're actually accomplishing something, and you'll get to meet new people which is always a bonus. Hope it plays out well for you :)

Actually, the only thing my parents pay for me is food and electricity. I pay for all my Transformers myself. And I get most of them in the US but it is still pricey. I would not feel right living off my parents either and I occasionally get them a little gift to show my appreciation.

And I have worked for many years in which I too payed taxes. But as BWmegatron pointed out, getting a job is not that easy with an economical crises. My internship proves that I want to work and that is my goal.

There are also a lot of people who do not want to work at all and are just comfy collecting unemployment. That of course is bad.

As for a car, I would first need to get my driver's license but not sure if I would even get it. Got the savings for that deposit so I an not completely unprepared.

Now women. I read you, Quill-Bill. I once had an online relationship and the girl treated me like trash. Worse I LET her. I was so much in love and I foolishly thought that I could not live without her.

Well, I finally got rid of her and I could not be better! The problem is that most women are quite devious and shrewd. And I experienced. I conceded back then because I was afraid to lose her.

Now I know that losing someone is not the end so I will stand my ground like any real man would. :tftongue Unless I am wrong, but I am never wrong.

A woman is like a black widow spider, she will grab you, suck you dry and leave you dead. (Well not the last part.) You know, there is a reason that most female Transformers are spiders. It is meant as a warning. :tfevil

I am emailig with someone who thinks it is cute that I collect Transformers. But she also thinks that I am handsome. So my spider-sense is tingling. And I do not have one. :tfevil :tflaugh

Well, gotta go. Work awaits.

Well you know the old sayin; life's a b@t@h

I say sell your entire collection, maybe keeping 1 or 2 that you really like. Use the money to move out or buy a suit for that job interview or use it to pay for an associate's degree.

When you're in better financial shape, buy back your collection piece by piece. They will always be out there.

That would be the easiest way to get money, would be to sell your collection. Otherwise work 2 or 3 crappy jobs to raise money and go back to school or start your own business.

As for being single, eventually you will find someone. Might take 2 year or even 10 years. That is irrelevent. Everyone has downtimes, just try your best to get past them. Good Luck :thumb

Oh, and girls only treat you bad if you let them. Think about it.

Sell 90% of your collection, keep only the ones you love and can never imagine letting go of. I recommend the rare G1s but that is my preference. Quality not quantity matters and it will save space.

As for your parents be thankful, if you can work with them stay at home you will save muchmore money than moving out in the long run.

Now in the immediate future sell your collections, fix a stellar resume, get your references in order and continue your education. If you are done w/undergrad great but if not, finish it asap. Things and women will be there in the future, but your education and your health are paramount.

Final suggestion, get your finances in order (learn how to invest and make passive income), continue your education and career started. In that order and sell the things that you do not need to raise money. Good luck.
