John Rogers to Write Transformers Movie

Recommended Posts

Let all us pray now.

I hated Catwoman but, perhaps he and others who are working on the film will become enlightened and/or take more time to research and consult w/people like Furman.

Understandable concern.

Let's see...

Take the amount of mythos that Batman and the character of Catwoman have had at DC Comics over the last 30+ years and turn everything you know about the character to date on it's ear. Now write a movie about it

If someone could do that to a character with that much history involved with it and completely ignore the source material, well TF fans, I'm afraid we're up the proverbial creek without a paddle.

I doubt Furman's going to have much of a say in this film after this decision, and if he does, I hope for his sake it's limited so as not to soil his reputation.

At this rate I can see the TF movie being big, overblown, and obnoxious.

Paramount hasn't had a great action track record as of late (Tomb Raider, Sky Captain, etc.), and Dreamworks only works when it has an animated green ogre shilling its name. Couple that with a writer who ignore source materials and it's a downhill slide from here.

This is becoming something even Speilberg can't save.

Oh, and I can't wait for Dennis Franz as Sparkplug.

Once again: Rogers did NOT single-handedly come up with, script, cast and direct the Catwoman movie. So putting the entire blame for that flick on him AND extrapolating it into a twisted vision of what the TF movie is going to end up like is somewhat... absurd. That'd be even worse than crapping your pants over the sheer thought of a Batman episode being written by David Wise for the sole reason that he was the guy who wrote "The Girl Who Loved Powerglide"...

Calm down dude!

You gotta admit, this is hardly the best news about the movie so far. And people speaking about their displeasure about the hiring is going to happen no matter who got the job.

Let's look at something he had more control over : The Core. While a somewhat fun show, it was basically a cardboard action movie. Or, as I called it, Armageddon in reverse. Not exactly distinguishable from any of the hundreds of other action movies through the years. Stock characters, predictable plot, right down to when the big twists would happen. Not a great show.

That said, I'm eagerly awaiting the voice of John Travolta as Megatron. :thumb :redface

Hmm, while he might not be the best, I think it can still be good as long as he is kept in check by others and co-writers who will be there too. As well as having a Spielberg who also keeps his finger on the storyline.

Dude, Robot Jox kicked so much ASS!!! :thumb And just to sum things up here, ALL of you know you will end up seeing the TF movie when it comes out. Don't be posting on a Transformers discussion board and say you WON'T CAUSE YOU WILL YOU GEEKS!!! :P

As soon as this movie was announced, my sister and I made a deal that we would both go see it together on opening night. See, it's kind of an inside joke... when I was younger and completely obsessive about TFs (G1, that is), taping and re-watching every episode, buying as many toys as I could, drawing pictures of TFs, buying TF comic books, even making TF music videos with 2 VCRs and a boom box (I are teh old skool), it made her life hell. Because she thought TFs were stupid and the show was completely lame. And yet she ended up knowing as much about it as I did, simply by having to live in the same house with me.

Now that we're both older and wiser, and my interest in TFs (G1, that is) is more based on the ol' ironic nostalgia thing than anything else, we thought it would only be appropriate for the two of us to go and laugh our asses off.

But then there was the announcement about Spielberg producing it. I told my sister that I was now experiencing major cognitive dissonance. I didn't know which would be weirder -- the fact that a geeky and goofy property like TF is getting major Hollywood attention, or the fact that the movie might actually be good. (I had never anticipated that possibility.)

Of course I'm feeling much better again, now that John "Catwoman" Rogers is set to write the screenplay.

Well, I did just check into IMDB, and I should have earlier.

Catwoman and The Core are hardly good additions to the resume, but he's apparently listed as the creator of the Jackie Chan Adventures. I've not seen the show much, but I'm told it's watchable.

That's a BIT closer...

Guys trust me on this one.

Having seen JCA since day one, I will vouch it's a GREAT show, with lots of wit and action. The characters are believable and it's simply one of the best animated shows of the past few years.

Knowing he help to create JCA is a huge plus in my book. :thumb

Don F

(No, not THAT Don F...)

Oooh, I bet Alternator Ravage will be the lead. With Wheelie/bumble bee and those armada kids in EVERY scene.

Optimus can turn into a big red fire hydrant.

Megatron, a slab of concrete.

Ooooh, and soundwave will turn into a tree. Watch out for his cassettes...I mean branches.

I really do want John Waters now. Bring on da big gunS!

Still not digging the John Rogers thing, but I will agree that "Jackie Chan Adventures" is one of the better cartoons on broadcast TV, and probably the best thing Jackie Chan has had his name on in the past several years.
