Any one else getting board with ALts/BTs?

Recommended Posts

I wouldn’t call it boredom so much as imagination. A lot of pretty clever people are thinking up new ideas for an already awesome line of toys. BT/Alts are grate BUT wouldn’t it be more awesome if they took them to the next level and did more than just cars!? I think it would! (and I’m going to try and convince HasTak of it too!) :thumb

well, some of us are getting bored.

unless they are gonna put out a parking lot play-set or something...

I think that the BT/Alt line is immense.  Undoubtably some of the best engineered, best looking and most clever TFs ever made.

However, there really are only so many ways you can transform a car and still leave it looking good...

If they're going to insist on only using cars, I think they should stop the line soon before it starts getting old... or 'jumps the shark' as some people might say!  Always best to end on a high :)

If they're going to branch out into planes (oh, please, please!) stop worrying about scale - it never seemed to worry any OTHER TF designers - and give us that transforming F-15... if Robotmasters can do a decent job on Starscream, I'd love to see what the Binaltech crew could do!

Whop! Whop! EXACTLY!

Might I suggest a scale breakdown?

Passenger vehicles (cars, trucks, and the like) -1:24

Large vehicles (construction equipment, military vehicles, fire trucks, big rigs) –1:28 to 1:30 (somewhere in that range)

Aircraft (jets, plains, helicopters) –1:48

As long as there are set scales for each type they can still give them the modle-like look they want, and as long as the bot modes are comparable I think we’d all be happy!

thy don't have to be in scale with the alts for the most parts, starscream should stand at eye level with masterpiece prime

Just bought Alternators Tracks and Meister trough eBay because I wanted to have them! :tftongue

Noticed that Meister was #7 while Tracks was #5. I guess Swindle is #6.

Anyways, I really like the Alternators because they have kick ass alt modes. :tfgrin (Windcharger appeals least to me but he is still cool.) I just think Jazz could have been red as well since it does look cool.

The problems with the Alternators is that red is a very common color for sports cars. Sideswipe, Binaltech Meister and now Windcharger are all red. And what options are there? Black, white, silver and perhaps blue. Yellow is also acceptable but much other colors would be odd. A purple car for example is not seen often. :tflaugh

And making an Alternator is very costly because of development costs and licensecing. So re-using molds is not just an easy way to make more money, I think it is also essential to make the line cost effective.

Sadly all retools we have seen are the Decepticons while they should also get original molds. Sunstreaker would have been a cool (and acceptable) Alternator though Dead End is a cool car as well. Completely different from Sideswipe.

Swindle is a different story, I am not too fond of him. So I am not going to buy him.

I think it could be cool to use other figures than cars for the Alternator line. Planes or tanks. Who cares if they are not in scale? In G1 barely anything was in the right scale and we could not care less. :tftongue

One other thing, I think they have been releasing a lot of Alternators in the last 2 months. Tracks is very recent and so is Jazz (I will never call him Meister!) and Grimlock and Windcharger will be released soon.

I would almost say it is too much. Or is that just crazy talk? :tftongue

I heard somewhere that Hasbro said there would be NO original decept molds, that they would all be retools. Has anyone else heard this?

If so I won't be buying tons of repaints, those retools better be better than Ravage. Piece of crap.

yeah, something other than sport cars would be nice.

Ravage and Grimlock... heck even Windcharger, gives me the impression that they're reaching for designs and characters. They should stick to the original cars for now. If they really want to make things more interesting, they should expand the line to include jets and military vehicles, so we can get some good Decepticons out of this. Maybe even a new Jetfire!

I understand the point you’re making.

I find myself also a bit…well, bored isn’t the right word, but I, too, feel there’s to much repetition. This because of three reasons:

1) They are all (sports) cars. Some variation in this would be appreciated. Some regular cars and even some other vehicles: planes (don’t have to be military or jets), small tanks, small construction vehicles… There really are so many possibilities. If it just remains cars, I’m afraid the line will indeed suffer from lack of change.

2) All are the same size. All Alternators are mega figures. BT/ALT is the only TF line which hasn’t got any other size class. Basics and deluxe aren’t really an option, but Ultra’s and Supreme’s would be. For instance A powerful Pickup truck (IRONHIDE, please !!!!!!), A small car carrier (for a single car), a small truck, etc… Different size classes would be appreciated.

3) There are many ways a car can be turned into a robot. Just look at the last twenty years of TF (minus the Beast years). Smokescreen/Silverstreak, Hound/Swindle, Meister/?, and Grimlock/? All have the same way in which the front of the car becomes the robots chest/shoulders. They should stop doing it like that, it’s becoming predictable. I would very much like to see some variation in this. I’m thinking of transformations like G-1 Sideswipe/Red alert, or RiD Ironhide. Also, why can’t the hood become the feet, or the back.

Don’t get me wrong: I love the Alternators/Binaltech line. Have several to prove this (with several more en route or on pre-order) and buy most of the figures twice for repaint purposes. It’s just, I love to see some variance.
