Ya I think Hasbro doesn't have the right to the name Overdrive. But what bothers me is.....why did Takara decide to choose a relativaly unimportant character in G1 to be remade into a Binaltech. Overdrive wasn't even apart of the main line of G1 toys. He was a mail order transformer. With so many more important G1 autobot characters that could get the binaltech treatment. Why choose Overdrive???

wasn't overdrive a ferrari?

i could be wrong... i do have the toy but it's stashed away downstairs...

and assuming we wouldn't get the "ok" from ferrari a la VW, Lambourghini, etc. Overdrive is a good choice based on the colours...

I can't think of another Red G1 autobot - cliffjumper??? he was a porsche 9XX (forgot)... hmm... if not Overdrive I would say Cliffjumper.

ferrari > porsche > honda in my opinion in the motorsports world... it would work.

I think we have to give the point to Hasbro this time...

I agree about calling him a name that is more prominent.

Ya I'm not disputing the fact he looks like overdrive but why did Takara decide to make the S2000 look like him? I'm sure they could have went with a different head sculpt and colour and called him something else.

I don't see why not. Technically this isn't the first time this happened since BT called Sideswipe, Lambor. Windcharger/Overdrive doesn't really share any solid similarities with any G1 character, and it really looks more like Overdrive. Plus, Overdrive's a cooler name than Windcharger. I figure Hasbro doesn't have the rights to that name, considering how cool that name is.

Well, screw this noise. I'm calling him Tenderheart.

"Lambor" is Sideswipe's Japanese name, just like "Meister" is Jazz's Japanese name and "Streak" is Blue/Silverstreak's Japanese name. They're the same characters. This is like calling Sunstreaker "Dead End" and Trailbreaker "Swindle", only without the repaint (though one could argue that Windcharger should have featured a lot more grayish-blue and less black).
