Something odd on BWTF.com

Recommended Posts

Like a lot of fans I often visit www.bwtf.com for figure reviews. I think Benson Yee is doing a great job even though I do not always share his views. But it is a free country. :tfgrin

Anyways I noticed something I consider odd in 2 of his latest reviews. The ones I am talking about are these:

Magna Stampede/Stockade/Prowl/Terradive Four Pack Toy Review

http://www.bwtf.com/universe/magna/

Fireflight (with Firebot & Terradive) Toy Review

http://www.bwtf.com/universe/fireflight/

I read the last one today and I noticed Ben saying it was pricey costing $10. Ok for a basic and 2 Mini-Cons it is pushing a bit. So that gave the 3 pack a lower rating than the 4 pack. But for the 4 pack which costs $20(!) he indicated that the price was justified buy giving it a positive review.

Granted Battle Unicorn was not the most available figure of the Beast Machines line. But apart from the show figures and the really cool/unusual ones (the Beast Wars Mutants) most of the Beast Wars/Machines figures were not that great.

I did not care that much for Snarl (Universe Redeco) or Bantor for instance. And I do not think that Battle Unicorn is a really great toy either. I do think Fireflight is a neat toy but that is solely because I like plane Transformers and this plane mode rules.

I am also going to get Nemesis Strika because she was in Beast Machines. Now I own all 5 Vehicon Generals. Thust (won him today on eBay), Tankorm, Jetstorm (Deluxe) and Obsidian RID version.

Even he still has his Vehicon spark crystal which I really like. (What color did Beast Machines Obsidian have? Just curious.) But the rest of the Universe line does not really appeal to me.

Like this 4 pack. The tank done may be a cool mold but I am not going to spend $20 on it when I could also get the original. :tfmad

What do you think about this. I think Ben was not entirely fair because the 4 pack is a lot more expensive than the 3 pack and should not have gotten a low review because of that. If the molds were really bad, then they should. I totally agree on that point of view.

The point was (and Ben said so himself) that the price was the problem. And I fail to see how that is a problem compared to the $20 people need to pay for the 4 pack.

But apart from the show figures and the really cool/unusual ones (the Beast Wars Mutants) most of the Beast Wars/Machines figures were not that great.

I disagrea, it was the Showfugures that ruined BM, Every nonshow toy rocked!

Though the latter waves of the show accurate "drones" were especially kick ass. Motorcycle drone and Tank drone.

I think he's kinda right in giving the $10 toy a less positive review because of the price. Fireflight, or I should say the RID version, is one of the worst bots ever, IMHO. Putting it with 2 minicons and charging $10 for it is way overpriced IMHO. For all 3 I wouldn't pay more than $5.

I don't get the overpriced arguement for Fireflight

Basic = 6.99

Basic + 2/3 basic = 10

Now the Manga Stampede/Stockade set, THAT is a ripoff (although Ill prob end up buying it :tflaugh )

The worst part about it is that Hasbro is taking the best BM figures and completely screwing them up with these hideous color schemes.

Actually I take that back -- I like Tankor/Obsidian. Obsidian looks cooler in that dark blue-ish color, and I liked the Rhinox colors on Tankor. But Snarl, Skydive, Battle Unicorn, and the Tank Drone all look totally nasty. And anyway, seeing G1 Autobot / Decepticon symbols on these figures makes my skin crawl. Bleah.

the tank drone rocks in the new color... fireflight and the other arel lame though. strika has a great paint job, but is the lamest toy (wheelie lame) that I have ever seen

No no no. You mean "Blastcharge." Strika's wheels are teh cool. Plus it's an evil TF chick -- what's not to like?

"Wheelie lame" indeed.

I really like strika and most of the BM figures that are coming out for universe. The tank drone and Battle unicorn are two great figs, but I don't know if they are $20 great.
