Real-life CONSTRUCTICONS?

Recommended Posts

Hey Gang!

first-time poster here with a question that may or may not have been addressed already ( if it has, please excuse my bringin it up yet again :redface )

Does anyone know what real-life construction vehicles the G1 Constructicons were based on or modeled after? I know that Bonecrusher was a bulldozer & that Longhaul was a dumptruck etc.. but does anyone know specifically , what model name and or maker each one was derived from? Caterpillar, KOMATSU, John Deere etc....

I ask because Ive undetaken a somewhat big project. Ive been on a DEVASTATOR kick lately & never had the G1 version so I started lookin around for him on Evil-bay & such. My intent is to create a truly awesome re-build of him thats uber-poseable, super detailed & painted to be realistically weathered but when I found out how much the original set was goin for , I couldnt justify buying one & chopping it up for a re-build with the possibility of F***ing him up so I turned to the KO stuff. I was told by a fellow co-worker that I could get a decent KO from BIG LOTS. Theres one not far from where I live & LO to my happiness, they had a boxed set for $8!!! YAY!!! Now I can rip, tear & shred to my hearts content!!

So back to the "super-detailed" part. The main reason I need to know what the original REAL vehicles looked like is so I can accurately detail the CONSTRUCTICON molds. "This sounds like its gonna take awhile" you say? You'd be right but in a month or so's time Im gettin laid off from Mcfarlane toys ( or should I say "McFartlane" :doh ) & I will have a dearth of unemployment time to mess with so why not use it for DEVS?

Any help you fine folks could supply me with would be immensely appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

Sorry to hear about your job... Its been tough for a lot people... Keep us update on this project... It sounds pretty damn cool... But I dont remember old cartoons actually recognizing official brands...

I don't know the exact machinery, but it is safe to say that they are ordinary construction vehicles. They're the kind you would see at most typical construction sites.

Hey guys!

Just a quick update for those interested. Most of the week at work has been really slow so I've been constipating...er...."concentrating" heavily on DEVS & heres where I've got to so far:

-New hands & blaster ( magenetically atached to inside of palms)

-New head mod wih clear visor & clear eyes for light-piped LEDs ( no head pic yet, finished it after I took these pics)

-New waist & lower legs (still being modified for proper height )

Sorry about the grainy, blurriness...these were taken on my cell but I'm hoping to pick up a decent digital camera this weekend so I can take better shots to share with ya all!

~Cheers!

Nice use of Silverstreak's legs.

How's the quality on KO DEV's plastic?

As far as I know, no diligence was used in determining Constructicon vehicle modes. I have no information for them.

Hey Yuyuyami!

Thanks for the thumbs up on SS's legs :D Theyre gonna work great in the long run but by the time I'm done with 'em they wont even resemble themselves! as for the quality of the KO plastic, the yellow bits are not bad but the black stuff is , well.......meh. I mean, its not too bad but its not too good either. Its almost somewhere between soft & brittle if that makes any sense...
