There should have been a sub-story of a Quantum Surge that sends Cheetor back in time into various other Transformers bodies to perform specific functions, like retrieving the Matrix from Galvatron to destroy Unicron, Silverbolt to save Orion Pax, Arcee to bond with Daniel, etc. And he would be monitored and assisted by Rat Trap who comes in on a private holofeed to torment Cheetor along his journey back to present-day Cybertron.
