What customs should I attempt?

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

As I'm travelling over to the US early next year I was thinking of trying to get hold of some alternators (as they cost a lot in the UK) for some custom projects. My only reservation about this is that I have no idea if HASTAK intend to release any of these figures in the future anyway. Depending on availability, my intended customs are as follows:

Red alert: white sideswipe repaint with dead ends window/lights

Sunstreaker: yellow dead end repaint using sideswipes window/lights and blacked out rear window.

Wheeljack: white tracks repaint with missiles removed and head replaced.

Skids: not too sure about this one. Was thinking of using smokescreen as a basis and replacing the car parts with a plastic ford focus model kit, although this may be way beyond my level of skill.

Bludgeon: Grimlock repaint to GTR concept as per the photoshops that are going around, with some sort of bludgeon resembling head that allows transform.

Trailbreaker: black swindle repaint with tarp added over rollbar.

Seekers: Doubt I'll bother as they're bound to be released in one form or another at some point but thought that any mold would be suitable for tthe 3 of them. Think maybe tracks is best for the job, although I also like the idea of using meister as that way I can use the silver, black and blue car modes that haven't been already used, as is the case with the impreza and corvette.

Optimus: This is a crazy notion but I spotted a 1:24 Mack rig and trailer model kit the other day and the box example was red with a grey trailer. I was very tempted to buy it and work out a custom for it over the next few months, maybe using armada Primes components as a basis. Who knows, so crazy, it may even work.

So what do people think to these? Any ideas or recommended methods for any of the above? Would love some suggestions. Thanks.

All good ideas, I've already done a red alert and sunstreaker. And I plan to do a Wheeljack when I can get some tracks in stock.

Best advise I can give is to take it slow and do what YOU want to. If you feel your mod should look a certain way, then DO IT. Remember, it's YOUR custom.

Also try to think of little thing that make a mod complete. Red cover plates for red alert for example may not be a big deal (just swap w/ dead end) but it adds a lot. but OBVIOUSLY you've alread thought of that.

Additionally try to use the lines that already exist on the car. If you try to do TOO much painting by hand it can look sloppy and out of place. Other than that, your suggestions are all great, and I wish you the best of luck.

Hope to see some pics soon. :thumb
