G1 or bust

Recommended Posts

I'm fairly new to posting and have posted in others' topics over the last month or so, but decided to start my own here, so bare with me a little and remember i'm new.

For me, transformers will always be the G1 us cartoon continuity. I was too young to read the comics when they were out, and have not really enjoyed the newer incarnations. I did love Beast Wars, largely due to its continuity of G1, and took Beast machines with a grain of salt, but its just how I am. I haven't read any of the Dreamwave stuff yet, but am quite interested in it and hope to pick up a few issues soon, but even so, it won't be the same.

Am i the only one out there like this? I can't even bring myself to buy any of the toys except for G1, reissues, the occasional Beast Wars, and maybe an Alternator/BT. What are your thoughts on this? Am I crazy, or am I not alone in this?

PS: I may have to pick up Energon Megatron for some kitbashing of a G1 Galvatron.

Pick up the Energon stuff. You'll be amazed at how alike it is to G1. I was like you before I hit this site, but now I'm into all facets of the TF universe.

the g1/bw/bm continuity was the best period. then again i have very little exposure to the comics (mainly due to me spendin all my free money on the toys) but the toys you should really think about picking up. they are infinitely better then the originals (for the most part) plus with the universe line you can pick up some of the great toys that you missed.

but seriously, you are just selling your self shourt by ignoring everything else but G1 there is so much more than meets the eye (sorry i couldnt help my self with that one).

yeah, RID produced some quality toys, you really ought to check them out, and give them a chance, you might be surprised

its not so much that i am ignorant of the others, i have made an attempt to catch at least a few episodes of everything, i just haven't particularly liked it. i saw a lot of RID, but never really liked it, i sat through at least 10 episodes of Armada, and i caught 1 of the episodes of Energon so far. I just don't like any of it, thats all. But i must agree that the toys are in many ways superior, but i have always had more of an affinity for the more realistic vehicle modes. And i can't explain it, but i even like the later futuristic bots of the post-movie era over the more modern realistic modes of say RID, although the one toy i picked up of RID Sideburn and i was quite impressed with his vehicle mode and transformation. I just enjoy the designs of the original better. So although the toys are superior quality and have more ingenuity, i just don't like the designs as much. Maybe i'm just stubborn i don't know. :tftounge

Think of it like Gundam. There was the Universal Century with Amuro Rey, Char Anzable and such. Gundam fans say this is the best...then they came out with X, G Gundam...and *shudder* wing...the fans, especially the older fans were NOT happy. This is like us G1 fans with RID and Armada...it's pretty, but no real substance...Then came out Gundam Seed. Next best thing to the original. Energon is akin to that. Give it a shot

At least pick up Energon Starscream. He's so neo-G1 that it hurts. And get Rodimus while you're at it.

I don't know if you have yet or not, but pick up some of Dreamwave's G1 comics. You won't be disapointed.

When I started collecting again, I was really only interested in G1 toys and the BT/ALT series. Then I picked up some dreamwave comics and a couple of toys from each line. Now I collect anything from any line. There are alot of cool toys out there, Your really depriving yourself if you just stick with G1. At least pick up E starscream , like the admiral says. :thumb
