I am looking for help in finding a series of a Japanese robot anime series that ran in the mid 1970's. I guess this would fall under the Mecha....

The series was about a scientist who built a robot. The scientist dies & his nephew took over the lab. The robot was used to fight against other evil robots. What I think is unique is that in order to operate the robot the human needed to jump into a small flying capsule & it would insert into the crown or top of the head of the robot. I don't remember the name of the robot or series name. The robot was white, black,& red. In order to fly it would run catch speed jump into the air & a missle guided type jet pack would attach to his back.

Does anyone remember what this might be?

Mazinger z?

Mazinger Z?

Edit: :argh Beat by Hobbes!

Oh, snap!

Mazinger z?

That was going to be my guess too....

yeah sounds like MazingerZ/TranzorZ or one of its sequels

Did someone call for me?

:dclol

THAT's IT!!!

Thanks guyz!! one of the links even had the opening sound/video clip of it in japaneese - LOL - OMG, what memories!

I lived in japan as a kid and use to watch it as a kid - before TFers had come out.

I remember my mom never understood why I wouldn't watch the TV with the sound off, since I couldn't understand a word of it - but it just wasn't the sound. At least you still got some of the emotion in the sound. LOL I think that might be my very first cartoon/toy memory. I use to have a TOY of this thing that was like 2 feet tall, plastic.

Awesome find - thanks guyz! :)

I knew it as Tranzor Z. I mainly remember BoBo Bot and the Fem bot that shot her Ti ts off. "fire missle one!!" Robots got away with everything back then.
