Question on fixing TFs

Recommended Posts

Not sure if this goes here, but I couldn't find a place it would go in, so. I'm repairing all my damaged TFs, and I need to know what paints best match the prexisting paint on them. I would also like to know how to repair the broken plastic on some of them.

You're best off bringing the figure(s) to a hobby shop and matching up the color with what they have. I recommend Testor's Model Master lines (Enamel, I prefer)

You want to use VERY thin coats.

To repair the broken plastic, you can try using some crazy/super glue, if that doesn't work, or if it's a high-stress part, try some 2-part epoxy.

You can mix custom colors... but as a beginner, I highly doubt you want to dive in head first like that.

Testors makes about 15 different shades of red, for example.

Mixing paints is very difficult to do, and i'd bet the majority of people trying to mix their own colors will end up throwing away paint and money.

I also would stay away from spray paint - another method which requires a lot of practice.

Yeah but you can't get practice if you don't practice. Ya know? :shrug I started out by working on crap furniture. You just gotta jump in and swim.

Agreed the first time trying to build out a figure with the paper thin plastic was on the Jazz figure I'm making. Granted I've been kitbashing for a while but this was my first time trying this, and I think it turned out pretty good. Check out my Jazzing up CL Prowl wip/ how to.

I didn't think the OP author was looking into going pro with these "fixes" he wants.

but, i agree, if you're going to plan to kitbash, yeah dive in. but even so, you have to start simple, then work your way up.
