drawoffs?

Recommended Posts

How come there is no drawoffs here.. if some of the well known pencilers here joined them. I'm willing to participate. Maybe not all of them but I'll try.

personally i just don't think their are that many artists here looking round id say their are about 7 people to regularly post and im sure theirs another 3 who do CGI stuff and clearly not every one can enter due to real life and such...

... but if your realy avid about it i can see what the other mods think (im sure it will be a yes) and i can set one up maybe 1 a month do you want thier to be judging or just enter if you want to enter?

Once a month is cool. Pencils only. I'm still crapola when it comes to color. Anyone can enter especially pros. But maybe if atleast 4 out of "frequent 7 can commit atleast to competing" (doesn't have to be everytime.) Kinda like in tennis where the top 10 has to participate atleast a minimum number or tournaments. Maybe the entries could be made into a TFans drawing contest Deviantart account or something for exposure.

my two cents....have a small committee (such as the regular art posters/mods) to come up with a theme for each month, a deadline and judging by either comittee or popular vote. I think there would be some interest if it was a regular thing.

The only thing I'm not down to drawing at the moment is create your own characters or not drawing a specific bot. Maybe let 6 months past or not so often.. So atleast regular contestants can be gauge at drawing the same thing.

if it goes ahead it wont be anything huge just a topic stating what its about and anyone can enter adding a DA acount would just not be worth it and just having links to the pics on the artist on DA site would be just as good to me plus we have a myspace page we can use

as for medium IMO it should be a free for all and when it comes to judging we will just keep the skill level in mind

any way i will ask the mods and if they like it i will start a topic with a theme that i will randomly pick

edit: ive put the idea to the others hopfully i will get a reply soon and then i will put a topic together

edit2:got one reply quite fast from pete and hes up for it. also he likes the art work in your sig. so im going to make the first draw off now

My opinion: As one of the people to do both CGI and illustrations, I think I'd stay away from any competitions. I really enjoy looking at everyone else's artwork, and I love the feedback I receive for the stuff that I post, but as soon as it becomes any form of competition bad blood starts to appear. I don't want some guy to post that all of my stuff sucks from now on just because I beat him in some final round draft. And I also don't want to be yelling "No WAY! My stuffs way better than his crap!". I come to this site to give and receive positive feedback.

In my experience, there's no such thing as friendly competition. So I won't be entering.

But I'd be more than willing to judge other people's work. Mainly because I'm kind of a dick.

Then maybe entries should be split up to skill level. If you think people's feelings will get hurt but I think that everyone here is mature enough to know their own level and not take everything with a grain of salt. I admit I'm not immune slings and arrows also but that comes in the territory of displaying art. Be it for a contest, be it for fun or serious or just posting it in a normal thread to get responses.

Sorry to hear you will be passing.

Robots are not my forte, but if a little bit of competition forces me to do better then the slings and arrows might just be worth it to gain the drawing muscle memory that comes in drawing.
