OTFCC Art Show Info Revisited

Recommended Posts

So it just occurred to me that, with the dissolution of the OTFCC forums, the rules and guidelines for this year's art contest and auction are no longer available. And we can't have that! So I'm reposting them here and on the other message boards so they'll be readily available to everyone again. I also tweaked the info about video entries, so reread that part if you're interested in that. And I'm extending the deadline for getting absentee entries to me because honestly, I'm gonna be in England until July 1, and while Walky should be able to pick up any entries left on my doorstep then I wouldn't be able to respond to any last-minute e-mails for information. If you need to contact me about any of this, you can reach me at autobottrixter@yahoo.com.

Here're the basics:

* The categories this year will be:

2D - Black & White

2D - Color

3D - Custom Figure

3D - Diorama

3D - Costume/Sculpture

Video - Clip Montage (Primarily consisting of clips from pre-existing animation set to music.)

Video - Original Material (Primarily a showcase of creator-produced footage, such as CG or stop-motion animation, set to music if you like.)

* Anybody attending the convention can submit art for the contest and/or auction, whether they have preregistered or are walk-ins. We will get contact information for everybody during check-in this year so we can easily reach contest winners and auction participants after the show. Those not attending can also participate by shipping their entry to me beforehand. The deadline for non-attendee entries is July 16, e-mail me for information on that option.

* We will have a computer set up in the art room to display video entries this year. Video entries submitted during setup must be in a standard file format on VCD or DVD-ROM so that they can be transferred and played on the computer. (You can have your CD back immediately once we've transferred the file.) We'll most likely be using Quicktime to play the videos, so .avi, .mpg, DIVX, or any format that's not too obscure should work. Since it would not be convenient to assign entry numbers to the video entries without disallowing walk-ins, all video entries will need to have the creator's name and the name of the video inserted at the beginning and the end of the video, either as a title screen or music video style. This way they can be voted on by name and we won't have to preassign entry numbers for you to edit into the clip. Anybody who would like to submit an entry on VHS tape will need to send their entry to Malin Huffman to be converted to a digital file. The deadline for that is July 1, and once again you can e-mail me for information.

* The artist will choose which category their entry/entries will be judged in (though we'll be happy to advise you). We will also have voting on the ballot for "Best Overall Entry" and "Funniest Entry" that will encompass everything submitted regardless of category.

Feel free to post to this thread with any questions or requests for clarification. The setup schedule will be determined along with the convention schedule itself, and I'll post an update as soon as I have that information, as well as any other updates I have.
