Timeline, set one earth month after The Enlightenment, first chapter.

 

Chapter 2: War and War

 

"What has this war given us? Ever since we were created we have been at war! Firstly we fought our masters for the right to rule, but then we turned against our own race and began a new war, and look at the strain we have put on our world of Cybertron!"

Dion, recently elected head lecturer of the New Cybertron University, was conducting his weekly lecture to a captive audience. The previous weeks had seen many different classes running with various topics being raised, but the highlight of the week was always Dion's talks.

"How many of you truly understand the scope of history? So many of you have barely experienced the full affects of this war, and like myself, live each day like it could be our last! But what about our future?"

Dion's enthusiasm and passion are obvious during his talks, and it is this passion that has already made him somewhat a guru-like figure amongst some of the young Autobots that have been attending, but there are those that attend because of the current relevant subject. Many of the Autobot council had declined Dion's invitation to his previous lectures, but this lecture had piqued their curiosity.

"So, do you think it's a bit ironic that [uhe's] lecturing us on war, eh Kup?" Hot Rod, a young brave and brash Autobot soldier, was one of the few younger Autobots to simply observe the lectures and not been caught up in the words and hype yet.

"Well, son, you know most of what he says is just propaganda and hype, but i reckon the core of what he's saying is pretty close to the truth. This war hasn't done us much good, and it just seems to keep on going." Kup, the battle hardened veteran and sometime mentor to Hot Rod, stepped down from his seat and began to walk to the nearest exit.

"Where are you going?" Hot Rod got up and followed him. "I wanna hear more of what Dion's got to say."

"Ah, i've had enough of this fella for more than a few more cycles. I'm going to see Ironhide, he's never been happy with this university idea and he needs all the company he can get. I've even seen him giving Perceptor some company up in his lab." Kup closed the exit doors behind Hot Rod and continued walking out the hall.

"Really? Man, sounds like he needs some picking up if he's been hangin with Perceptor! Heh heh."

 

As Hot Rod and Kup leave the hall, the tone of the lecture changed behind them.

 

"It is amazing to see the hundreds of you who have begun to see the opportunities presented by this new university. We have an opportunity, Autobots, and you have a choice." The crowd hushed from their chatter and began to listen intently to Dion's words. "Do you want to live in constant war!?!"

Dion paused, and looked around the crowd expectantly. "Well, DO YOU?"

At this, a small group of Autobots started to yell out "NO!"

 

"That's more like it! War is not the answer my fellow Cybertronians." At this, the Autobots that responded began to chant "No more war! No more war!" and gradually each and every Autobot in the hall was standing on their feet and chanting.

Dion stopped pacing around the podium and thought, 'this is it, now is the beginning'. He looked out towards the crowds of Autobots, "Now, it is time for the unveiling" At this, the Autobots hushed enough to see Dion press a button and suddenly a huge blue banner was released from above the stage.

 

"This is the symbol of our future!" Dion's shout echoed across the hall and through the streets of Iacon itself.

But, before anyone could see the final unfurled symbol, a voice pierced through the Central Hall saying, "But you will never get to see it!"

 

And, without another word, there was a flash above the stage and the banner that was being unveiled was blasted to shreds.

 

"Nooooo, who dares to interupt the unveiling!" Dion's screams continued but were lost in the noise of blaster fire and explosions as a trio of Decepticon jets came into view and flew across the Hall's inhabitants.

The Autobots who were too slow to get out of the way of their fire could only hope to come out of the attack unscathed, but, as quickly as the threat had erupted, the intruders were gone and had left a crowd of confused Autobots.

 

Aftermath.

 

"So, do you have any idea who is responsible for this?" Dion walked past the rubble strewn seats of the hall with Prowl.

"Well, we know they were Decepticons," Prowl began.

"Obviously," Dion interrupted.

"AND, that there was only three of them. BUT, the security cam has been viewed by Red alert and Streetwise and we do know one thing," Prowl continued.

"What's that?"

"We know who they weren't. There is not much to see on the security cams, but we know that they are not any Decepticon we have on record, but they had familiar traits with the Seekers." The pair climbed up to the stage and as Dion began to walk away, Prowl bent down to pick up something. Prowl looked closer and realised it was a piece of Dion's banner, thinking nothing of it he dropped it back amongst the rubble on the stage.

"So, what does that mean? What are you going to do about this?" Dion nervously walked back towards Prowl and although speaking to him, he kept his eyes scanning the ground for any more shards of his banner.

"Well, I'M not doing anything personally about it, but i've got Streetwise leading the hunt with the Protectobots to find out where their trail leads and to bring them in to stop any more renegade attacks like this." Prowl moved closer into Dion's personal space and got his attention. "But, you and I need to talk about how you are running this University i've given you. I know you've just started, and you're still getting used to things, but I don't want another fanatical uproar taking over the minds of my citizens."

Looking directly back at Prowl, Dion responds, "well, for that you have to have a fanatic leading them." Wanting to avoid further confrontation Dion began to walk towards the stages exit, "now, if we've finished our conversation, i'd like to get back to my office to begin writing next weeks talks."

As Dion reached the exit, he turned back to Prowl. "By the way, how is Optimus doing?"

"He's still in the CR Chamber, Perceptor's getting pretty anxious for all of us without him, but he thinks it shouldn't be long until he's back online. Why?"

"Oh, just checking Prowl. I'll send you a transcript of my next lecture." As he walked from Iacon's Central Hall to his new office, Dion's mind was racing with ideas for his next lecture, but one thought overpowered them all.

"Excellent."
