classic starscream touch-ups

Recommended Posts

hey everyone. I just got Classic starscream today, and over all, i'm pretty happy with him. But there's always room for improvements. Here's my crack at it.

He has tons of lines that are lost in the plastic, so, i did some panel linning to bring it out. I also added some silver paint in the face, and chest area. Paint was aslo used in the turbine/landing gear area.

the black part of his head showing in alt mode really bugged me, so i decided to paint it. I was afraid that it would look weird in robot mode, but it actually looks ok.

I like what you've done. Brings out the details specially the chest part (Wheels) Great job :thumb

Suprised about the head. Now I may have to do the same :thumb

Good job. I really like how you did the wheels/turbines, and the silver accents on the head are great. I really need to touch mine up.

Awesome...how did you do that?

Did you just use paint markers/pens? Did you do an inkwash and clean it up really good?

Awesome. Did you use one of those gundam paint pens?

thanks all.

i didn't use gundam pens. I've never had them before, and they are too expensive in my opinion. I use a pigment liner pen from Staedtler. They are waterproof and lightfast. They cost only about 2.50 and are readily available almost everywhere pens are sold. You can get them in very small size. I just draw them on, and use a cloth/tissue paper to wipe of the excess inks, leaving behind very clean and thin line. it's a pretty easy and full-proof process.

The hardest part of all of this was drilling a hole in his you-know-what so he can hold his mid flight post.

another way could be to use watered down games workshop/hobby inks. Then wipe away the excess with a tissue and use a hairdryer on low setting to gently dry the ink so you can turn him over and do the other side but be careful of "pushing" the ink" with hot air when using even a low setting on the dryer.

Did you use the same colour ink on all the colour areas?

yes, your method probably works. But i find it all too complicated. I use one pen, on all area. The ink is not runny, so i don't have to worry about drying it or anything. It drys pretty quickly, but still gives you plenty of time to wipe of any excess or mistakes. Also, if you happen to draw outside of the line, and onto the painted areas, the ink can be wiped off without leaving any damage to the existing paints. I find this way to be cheap, easy, fast, and effective. what more can you ask for right? :thumb
