Alternator Mirage- pics & review

Recommended Posts

hi!  it's me again.  anyway, i found an alternator mirage today at target in Seal Beach, CA, so they should be hitting shelves all over SoCal soon.  something to note is that the assortment he is in also has tracks and meister (jazz) and i believe prime, but prime was already gone when i got there.

well, on to the meatiness.  i didn't take any pics of his alt mode, but it goes together really well.  everything seems to line up nicely, except when you open the rear decklid.  the hinge on it is weird and it opens really strangely, you have to open the top first then fold the top onto the hinge as you open the back of the lid.  if this doesn't make sense now, it will when you get him, and you will get him because you can't resist anyway.  the steering mechanism works OK, and the doors open like normal car doors.  i was under the impression that ford GT doors opened gull-wing style, so i was a bit dissapointed, but i may be wrong on that anyway.

alright, bot mode:

he is a really dark blue, but not as dark as the picture.  my camera sucks.  anyway, you can see a little of his back in the mirror.  he has a little bit of kibble, like all the alternators, but it looks appropriate and he looks really badass.  one complaint i have, however is that he feels like a ragdoll with all the joints and pivots that hold him together.  he also looks like he should have ratchet legs, but mine don't ratchet at all.  i can see him getting loose very easily, whis is too bad, because he is an awesome looking alternator.

another bot mode from a different angle:

same pose, just a different view.  he doesn't have the awkwardness that the other ford mold has, his transformation actually is pretty easy compared to the mustang and nothing pops off or falls off.

all in all, this is a great new mold, and a must have for the line, just don't play with it too much or you'll end up with a beanie former.

and you'll go blind.

yay! so you didnt have to beat anyone up for it did you?

EDIT - is this the first alternator that has a molded Faction symbol in car mode?

BTW - i saw a 1:24 model Ford GT in Montebello today and it had doors that open normally as well...

didn't have to beat anyone up, but i did run like hell and duck around corners after i found it.

the faction symbol on his hood is in fact NOT molded, but that does open up a possible decepticon repaint.

and as far as the doors, i must just be trippin' then.  i just looked up some pics online and they do open the normal way.

:rofl @ your sig

But my question remains - is this the first faction logo in Altmode? (other than licenseplates)

Some advice:  The stripes aren't painted on - they're vinyl decals, and they don't wear well.

Particularly at the spot behind the front wheels, where they meet the corners of the doors when in 'bot mode.

Sideswipe

Prowl

Swerve (if you count the sticker)

edit: oops.

Yeah, the doors open normally.  They are not supposed to be gullwing doors.  Someone in my neighborhood has one.

Don't know who the rich guy is...but I see it every Sunday leaving my neighborhood.  Or should I say...I hear it...as it tears up the street...

I also got a Mirage quite recently...and hyour description/review is quite spot-on.  If anyone wants to see pics in certain poses, or next to something in particular...let me know.

Machine gun jubblies? :P Anyway, this is one of the coolest Alternators so far, but also one of the most complex, imo. All his parts tend to make him seem a bit loose. It looks nice in robot mode. I just wouldn't have expected a double blaster.
