How Transformers will explode

Recommended Posts

Sorry Shadow, but I have to bring up He-Man and his not-so-good movie.  I don't know if it was just the timing, but it seemed the whole He-Man franchise went down the tubes shortly after the movie was released.  I'm surprised they never tried to Transufomah! the old GI-Joe toons and toy series for a movie.

If the movie mold toys have awesome bot modes and transform into decent looking vehicles, we may have a winner.  From what I've heard about the movie bots, I don't see how this will be possible.  The best we can hope for is something along the lines of the Alternator series.  Even so, if the movie tanks, the Transformer line of toys already has a huge fan base and consumer market.  Hopefully those boneheads at Hasbro won't let the movie sales effect things too much in either case.  Hell, call me old-school, but I'm still holdin' out for the resurgence of die-cast.  Death to plastic!!!  These things are expensive enough already.  Give me metal for my money!

Hey! I liked that movie!

Wow, people actually predict the death of the Tf franchise because of the live action movie... I bet these were the same ones who wept aabout how the movie would never get green lit despite having an official website and Stephen Spielberg saying it was coming out.

I predict Transformers will jump back into the mainstream whwn the movie comes ou. TV channels will start showing the cartoons again. Every bookstore will have loads of Tf stuff and MTV will have a behind the movie special about Transformers. If the film is successful the inevitable sequels will keep the franchise's boost going for at least another 8 years.

The transformers movie is going to huge and will certainly sell a crapload of toys for hasbro.  If you like transformers just the way it is, that's a bad thing.  Things are about to change!

I like change.  I'm hoping their are adult toys.  Based on starwars and other big movies like this, there will be.  I hope alts and MP continue and add toys related to the move.  Maybe even a nod to Kiss Convoy in the film (ok, that was joke).

Should be a fun ride.  Sit back, get the sand out of your Clampdown's and enjoy the ride...

Well, I'll stand by my point. After the dismal failure of the Fantastic Four movie, the toyline was cancelled. I'm not saying the line will vanish into thin air and never be seen again, but it could seriously hurt the franchise if the movie fails.

I still Hasbro will make loads of cash though before the movie actually opens because of the hype that will be behind this movie.

Flaw in your logic:  the Fantastic Four toyline didn't exist for 20 years prior to the movie.  I'm sure Transformers as a brand will survive the movie, either way.

Guess it's just a case of waiting till the movie comes out, see how successful it is, or not,  and see what happens.  Since it will likely be marketed to kids, then it would have to have no real story as such, a lot of special effects, a really cheesy ending, plenty of explosions and a lot of noise.  That always seems to work with kids over ten, under ten it's almost the same, except the need to add in cute things.  Like maybe Bumblebee having a love interest, like a toaster, microwave or a USB Port, maybe a love triangle with said USB Port and a mobile phone, and some very annoying catchphrase.

With the toys, Hasbro would have to pratically bribe most of the shops these days to take the toys in since they're already refusing to in this country for the most part.  They would have to actually market the product, with cartoons actually being shown on more than a few channels that not everyone can get, actual adverts at decent times and some really horrible pop tune to it that makes millions, maybe something with Prime singing in a boy band*the horror*.  And that's all if the movie is successful in the box office and if the critics love it.

If it flops, then the TF francise will likely struggle a little longer then slowly die off with no chance of a revival.  It is over 20 years old after all, only Barbie and My Little Pony is likely to last till the next century, probably Power Rangers as well.  So let's just wait and see what happens.

Tony.

Well, at least you're being optimistic about it.

Geez, now I want to go cut myself just for reading that post.  :roll

Once you've seen a few of the terrible movies made from a toy product, you've seen them all.  It's very rare for a movie made off the back of a toy to be any good, the only real exception being the original TF movie from the 80s which was watchable, which is more than the rest of them.  It's like when a movie comes out on the back of a video game, it's always terrible and it's only popular because of it's name.  Like the Mario Bros movie from the 90s, popular due to it's name, but a terrible movie.  And then there's the Power Rangers movies, terrible beyond belief.

So having high hopes for the upcoming TF movie is a waste of time, it's better to have neutral hopes for the movie and see what it's like when it's released.  Maybe, just maybe, it will be an excellent movie, but it's more likely that it could turn out to be utter rubbish.  Better to wait and see.

Or it could be one of the many reinventions of a franchise which works really well like Blade, X-men, Spider-man or Batman Begins.

Exactly.  Transformers was a comic book, too.  I think the only people who should be looking at it the way Tony is are the people who just want to see the first three episodes of G1 in live action on a big screen.  Anyone who can look at it openmindedly may just enjoy the movie.

Getting all emo over "leaked" bullBlot rumors is uber-lame.  Fanboys nay-sayed the LOTR films before they came out too, but look how great those movies were...  (With the exception of the 30 minutes of PG-13 gay Hobbit porn at the end of the last movie...  :redface )

A good point, so far all we've seen are a few pictures which, to be quite honest, aren't all that interesting.  Maybe the movie will mark a new start for the line, or maybe it will bring it to an end.  It's pretty pointless to have too many high hopes for the movie and then get disappointed.

I hated the old G1 cartoon even when it was first shown on TV, but the characters more than made up for the lack of strong stories.  So I've got no feelings for this upcoming movie, I'm not all that fond on movies, I prefer books.  I'll see it when it's out to rent months after it's big screen debut, I'm in no rush.  It's only a movie after all.

The movie will be a success and 20 years from now after nuclear war has engulfed the human race our original G1 die cast figures will rise up and rule this planet!!!!! rule it I tell you!!!!
