well unlike the starwars fans we are already bitter before the movie comes out

Well, I'll stand by my point. After the dismal failure of the Fantastic Four movie, the toyline was cancelled. I'm not saying the line will vanish into thin air and never be seen again, but it could seriously hurt the franchise if the movie fails.

I still Hasbro will make loads of cash though before the movie actually opens because of the hype that will be behind this movie.

Two possabilities for the TF francise with the upcoming movie would be:

1)  The movie is popular, well loved and makes a fortune.  Kids go nuts for the toys, parents groan about the toys and other francise, the TF line becomes as popular as it was in the 80s.  So even with bad sequels to the movie and mostly rubbish francise, the line will continue for maybe another ten or twenty years and finally bow out gracefully.

2)  The movie is rubbish, becomes one of the many ignored movies, makes less than it cost to make, the TF line suffers fully, kids continue ignoring it and parents don't even notice.  A year or less later, the TF line disappears for good with a final line or a final toy as a goodbye to the line and it disappears, becoming forgotten ten or twenty years later.

Whatever happens, the TF line will be affected since Hasbro markets it to kids and if the kids don't like it, then it doesn't stand a chance.

Tony.

I disagree with some of #2.  This is what will most likely happen.

If the movie fails Hasbro will scrap any future plans for sequel movies and will stick with TV shows with a toy line.  Transformers survived these last 10 years even with the "awesome" toyline that was Beast Machines (don't interpret this the wrong way, there are toys from the line that are good, it just didn't sell well).

As long as they keep changing Transformers every couple of years the line will remain fresh.  There could be a dip, but I don't see Transformers completely dying off anytime soon, at least not like what happened after TFTM.  That was just a stupid decision on Hasbro's part, if they had not killed Prime and Megs (season 3 would have been different as a result of this), Transformers would probably have lasted another year or two.

#1 is the most accurate.  If the movie is a success Transformers will become even more popular than it is, and it's pretty popular right now.

I'm sure it'll do well.  It's opening on the 4th of July.  A lot of people will see it for that reason alone.

I do not think it will spawn any great revival.  We'll get some n00bs, most of them will leave after about 3 months.

they should leave the line alone for a while, then come back to it 7-10 years later with something absolutely new, like what they did with beast wars (remembers beast war's popularity, a younger generation that had known nothing about transformers were introduced to this brand and it automatically became a massive hit-----> a fad at school was to bring in your  "beasties"--widely popular)

although that would be difficult to do since the concept around the transformers has almost run dry (i.e. robot that turns into vehicle or animal, there isnt much left...........i suppose they could go in a mythological direction and have them turn into dragons, monsters (etc.)

From what i've seen from people's reactions to the trailer,  i think the movie should do well.......

Go to a PUA chatboard and ask them about the differences between before "The Game" was published last year, and after it hit book stores.  Then add up those differences and magnify it by 100, as this will be a very well advertised blockbuster movie with a fairly wide target audience, and not a book centering on a relatively unknown genre.  That's what will happen here.
