Question for TFans with kids

Recommended Posts

For me to be honest, I dont like any one to touch my toys. Since my Cousin broke the head off my G1 starscream when I was like 7, I've been really weary.

As far as the kids, I try to buy them their own stuff so they wont have to ask me. I rarely let them play with anything. My rules are, If it has diecast, has easily worn paint or an Alternator, they can play with it.  My kids make me angry as far as toys go. Like I said, I get them their own stuff, they beg and bug me in the stores or I try to get them something I know they'll like and are really happy when they get it. The next day, you never see it again and they're up in my face asking for my stuff. The 8yr old really makes me feel dumb when I buy him stuff. Soon as I buy something, any thing, ie I could buy Him Evac and I could get Breakdown the next day, he'll be going on and on about how dumb and stupid his toy is and he'll want the one I have. I've even tried to to fake em out and give them toys I dont care about or have extras of and say "this is mine but you guys can play with it when ever you want, just dont break it".......I give up on them and toys. Bargain bin Video games from now on.

A good question to ask yourself is "do I buy toys for my kids as often and as freely as I do for myself?" JMO

Also, all kids will be entranced by stuff they see on shelves. (take one to a grocery store sometime) There's nothing wrong with being like "no, sweetie, you can't play with daddy's THS-02" IMO... stuff that's not really "for kids" if you know what I mean. My kids understand that I have some toys and they have some toys... if they feel like they're getting stuff too, then they don't feel shafted or left out.  It's also good if they have something *you* don't have. just some thoughts

Family Game night at the Madhammer residence:

LMH: Son, may i please see the Armada Ironhide?

Son: No Daddy.

LMH: pleeeeeeze?

Son: I am sorry, but no.  You can play with Backtop - with supervision

LMH: but i dont want backstop

Son: meh

LMH: Honey!!! Child wont let me play with the Ironhide!!

Wife (off screen): Which ones that honey!

LMH: The big blue truck!!

Wife: isnt that? Dont you have? um...

LMH: Fine i dont want to play anymore!

I don't have Backstop

I can answer no to this. When I buy them stuff, it ends up in the bottome of the toy bag and rarely seen again. Or I hear of how suddenly lame it is. All the ammo I need to go, "Pfffffft! You ain't gettin it! Put it back on the shelf and shaDap!!

One TF the kids still play with when ever they see it, and this is wild for me, Energon Omega Supreme's Head master. They'll Play with that little guy pretending he's Optimus, mean while Bendy Prime is just Waving in the corner thinking to himself, WTF?!

I don't have Backstop

And I'm pretty sure no one has Armada Ironhide.

I know we don't

So far Cybertron has been the most enduringly popular TF line with the kiddies, despite the constant losing of cyber keys.... though we probably own every minicon ever made

oh and Powermaster Prime is always a big hit for some reason

P.S. personally I think it's a bit unfair if we indulge our desire to buy children's toys but deny it when it comes to our kids. something just seems wrong about that. I don't think the answer is necessarily to just buy more stuff for everyone... but maybe to buy a little bit less stuff in the first place perhaps. JMO

He is brickalicious in the best sense of the word!

well my 7 yr old daughter has a G1 prowl i bought for here and one of the tin can minicons, my 1yr old son on the other hand has a MP prime a galaxy force wing saber, and some minicons, that i bought him.  i let him touch some of my formers every once and a while until he gets old enough to transform them his self, then by then i will have bought him enought to let him play with his own.
