Question for TFans with kids

Recommended Posts

I have a 3 year old nephew who I let play with my toys, but only when supervised by me. He knows that they're my toys and to be careful with them. Overall though I have no problem with him playing with them.

i let my nephews touch em when they come over they get all dreamy eyed and i cant say no....... close supervision tho....my 3 month old neice loves em too they make her smile and drool......... but hey man get the kid his own if you can afford them........

heres one for you tho...my grammas dog plays with every toy i get....he loves em...they fascinate him to no end...and he loves being shot with missiles so he is my test dummy....

I have a nearly three year old boy, and another bun in the oven...

My son loves Transformers!  (I don't know where he gets *that* from.)

My collection is mostly G1, but I have the leaders from Cybertron on display, etc.  I also buy most of the current release toys, fidget with them, and put them away.  Anything that's not on display, I let my boy play with.

He's starting to take notice of the toy's on display, especially Cybertron Prime.  (ooohh, look at dat big wig wobot. dat's daddy's wobot.  i wanno hold it, pweeeeesee!?)

My son is very good with only touching what he's allowed to touch.  And he get's more than enough of my Transformers to play with.

But...  I'm tempted to buy him his own Cybertron Prime, Metroplex, etc.  I can afford to do that, but it seems like overkill and a bit wasteful.

What do you guys do?  Do you share across the board with your tikes, or do you have some that are untouchable?  I'm sure when he's a little older, I won't mind sharing anything, but right now he's a little destructive...

(father of three, soon to be four... all boys so far)

toys are for kids... it's more natural for him to play with them than for you to keep them on your shelf

I just happen to mostly collect stuff my kids don't want. Then again, I'm not much of an A/E/C collector, so I suspect that might have something to do with it. That stuff is very very kid friendly.

well, I don't have any kids, but I should be becoming an uncle today :thumb

and whether my sister likes it or not, whether the tyke is a boy or a girl, it's getting a go bot :P

If I ever have a child who wants to play with daddy's Transformers, I'll probably bring the "work collection" duplicates home to let 'em be played with.  And I'm pretty sure I've got enough duplicate SW figures to cover that area as well :thumb  And if my child wants one of daddy's toys that I don't already have a duplicate of, I'll go ahead and ebay it if it's reasonable :)

Also, all kids will be entranced by stuff they see on shelves. (take one to a grocery store sometime) There's nothing wrong with being like "no, sweetie, you can't play with daddy's THS-02" IMO... stuff that's not really "for kids" if you know what I mean. My kids understand that I have some toys and they have some toys... if they feel like they're getting stuff too, then they don't feel shafted or left out. It's also good if they have something *you* don't have.

just some thoughts

i have a 4 year old boy and i buy him more TF's then i buy for myself

He's got most of Cyb and some energon and Armada

But he likes my Alts/BW's/THS and G1 but he knows he isn't allowed to touch them at all

He did held Alt Nemesis in his hands and he was amazed by it

"daddy ya wanna buy me this one to cuz i don't have it YET!"

so to say i'm on teh hunt for another Alt Nemesis (again)

i let my nephews touch em when they come over they get all dreamy eyed and i cant say no....... close supervision tho....my 3 month old neice loves em too they make her smile and drool.........

Wait....what are we talking about again? :wtf

I've not got any kids, but I would go with the same idea of just letting young children play with the Go-Bot TF's.  E-Ironhide had a little encounter with a year old baby last year and now his right hand wing/side panel is destroyed after it was thrown off the shelf.  So just Go-Bots from now on, every other TF is perhaps a little dangerous for young children, any children really if they're going to swallow the smaller pieces or any pieces that have snapped off.
