Why Megatron SHOULD be a gun

Recommended Posts

Cool conversation...

I LOVE Megatron. In the G1 cartoon he always portrayed a smart and cunning

bad ass who got his team's but kicked more times than I can remember.

But what he stood for, was what appealed to me the most.

He stood for power.

Every silly scheme he came up with was for the conquest for power.

He is everything Prime is not.

And as a huge Prime fan, I had to respect the character of Megatron...

The gun was OK. I prefer the tank, as there is no mass shifting and he forms a vehicle like everyone else. Not to mention a tank is an evolution to a little gun. With a LOT more firepower! Great alt mode...

Jets are cool. Dragsters are cool. Even Tyranosaurs are cool.

But if I had a choice for the Leader of the Decepticon's alt mode,

it would be a multi-gunned, rattleing, armoured battle tank.

I really enjoyed the idea of Armada/Micron Legend Megatron.

If he only had knee joints... Oy!

Here's to hoping Alternator Megatron or Movie 2007 Megatron

becomes a cold and calculating reality!

Mwah Ha Ha Ha Haaaaa...

TREX<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

Oh and Megatron started out as huge ass gun at the beginning of the G2/GIjoe comic book arc. He apparently mistook a morphing Cobra fortress for another Transformer and immediately proceeded to blow the living crap out of it.

Gigantic floating guns I will admit are cool in the comic book world but in the toy world a tank makes a hell of a lot more sense and is IMO a lot more fun when in scale with other transformer vehicular alt modes.

Gun was G1 and hopefully after the STFU version is released will never be attempted as one again.

Megatron can't be compared to Shockwave in terms of huge gun flying around as Shockwave wasn't given an Earthern form.  Apart from the afore mentioned opening credits I don't remember Megatron really flying in alt mode and the cartoon was incosistent anyway (take for example the different ways some transformers such as Ironhide transformed or even Hot Rod in TF:TM).

Perhaps as part of the reformatting by Teletran Megatron lost some of abilities he might have had in that Teletran made him more like the Earthern equivalent that obviously doesn't fly.

Hi, I just thought I'd throw my two cents on this topic on the boards and see what other people think on the subject...

I think Megatron should be a gun because there seems to be a certain irony in the fact that the most ruthless, treacherous, power-hungry of warriors becomes totally helpless in his alt mode. Yes he is still extremely powerful but he needs someone to function. I doubt Megatron would ever admit to needing anyone's help for anything.

But Megatron don't need him. Megatron is power incarnate. As posted, in the beginning of the first season he is shown in gun mode operating and firing on his own. Megatron is the first true Targetmaster - he can have a partner or not.

It's also cool that when teletran 1 did its orignal scan of earth the only thing comparable for Megatron was a gun. Whereas the other Transformers needed weapons, Megatron was a weapon. Teletran did process him as an ambulance, or a helicopter only as a means for destruction.

Teletran is Autobot technology and is therefore inferior. It had been established in the G1 cartoon that Autobot technology was centuries behind Decepticon tech. Examples: Solar Needle, Space Bridge, Energon cube synthesis, and various weaponary. In fact, Autobots were always in a disadvantage when compared to the Decepticons in terms of strength, intelligence, and organization. This could be that the Autobots were originally designed to be slaves/servants and the Decepticons were designed as soldiers/gladiators.

Also, if Megatron becomes a tank then it takes a certain element away from Optimus Prime. Tank vs. Truck = no contest. If you'll all remember back to the G1 cartoon when Prime went head to head with Motormaster, Prime lost. And all Motormaster had was an extra trailer!

Problem is, Optimus Prime wasn't as strong as Megatron to begin with. Megatron was made to be power incarnate. It wasn't until Orion Pax/young Optimus Prime was rebuilt by Alpha Trion that he became more powerful, but still not enough power to overwhelm Megatron. The biggest glich in the G1 cartoon is that it showed Megatron taking the other power/abilities of his Decepticon in a one-on-one fight with Optimus Prime. This episode was messed up because Megatron is always more powerful than Optimus Prime. The fact that Optimus Prime is a truck and Megatron is always a piece of military hardware defines the power of each character.

And Motormaster did lose to Optimus Prime, just barely. Motormaster is like the Decepticon version of Grimlock. This is another example of how inconsistent the G1 cartoon was. Now if Optimus Prime has that hard of a time defeating a subordinate Decepticon, he would have a hell of a time beating the top Decepticon.

Despite whatever alt mode Megatron adapts, Optimus Prime will always have to fight twice as hard to even come close to Megatron's power levels. I suspect this is also the reason why he's been getting super modes since Armada.

Since the end of G1 thankyouverymuch.

Powermaster prime.

Primal had no Super mode (Well... He became one permanently I guess)

You know, I've never liked the idea of Optimus Prime being so damn powerful just because "he's the leader".  Having massive stats does not a leader make; an understanding of strategy and tactics, the wisdom and intuition to use that knowledge effectively and the charisma to motivate the troops are what a leader needs.  10's across the board on the tech specs means you don't have to be a leader because you're basically a one-TF army.  Why do you need the smart guys if your Intelligence is 10?  Who needs the speedsters when you're at 9 or 10 Speed?  Who needs a fighting badass like Grimlock when your Strength is 10?  Now for Megatron it makes perfect sense, because thy're more like a bunch of individual warriors forming a tribe around the biggest butt-kicker they've got, but Prime?  Nah.  I'm actually glad he gets his ass handed to him once in awhile.

Oh and as for gun Megs, well,

TANK>>>>>>>>>>>>>>GUN.

ALWAYS.

Intelligence is one of those high stats, FYI.

You know those stats are relative, right?

You all realize that "redundant G1 vs today" threads are going to get a LOT more common the closer we get to the film

*awaits for the next FIRRIB/FIBRIR and TRUK/Munk threads*

I'd rather Megatron be a tank. Tanks are superior to handguns.

Yeah I agree.
