Cool pic and congrats on finding em.  :thumb So how they compared to the rest of the Cybertron line? pretty solid or as the rampant naysayers probably say pretty craptacular.

 

Despite what's been said I am really looking forward to finding these in the next month or two. Really liked em from the start and have no objection to either of em. :thumb

These guys were SPECIFICALLY designed for the Cybertron line IMO.  To me, they have the Cybertron feel AND they have that BW vibe.  They essentially took their forms from BW Season 1 and updated them with Cybertron toy tech.

 

Just a quick opinion on these two:

Megatron

I think this is how Megatron would look if BW was techno beasts instead of organic.

 

Transformation is easy but that is to be expected.  VERY similar to BW Season 1 transformation I think.  Been a while since I transformed T-Wrecks (I didn't get Megs) but I think it's pretty dead on.

 

The tall has the Cybertron key gimmick and is done nicely.

 

Has good articulation and poseability.

 

Definitely a solid figure.  For all intents and purposes, he IS BW Megatron.  It doesn't piss on the past instead it takes what was great and made it better IMO.  Both modes are done well.

 

 

Optimus Primal

 

The color scheme DOES NOT WORK in beast mode!!  The pictures are accurate here.  It's hideous.

 

HOWEVER, in robot mode the colro scheme works extremely well.  It's not near 100% identical but works well, I think they're trying to go for a Prime comparison here for some reason.

 

Remember the pictures of Primals robot mode and the reaction to the head? Well, THEY DO NOT DO JUSTICE!  The head is VERY well done.  It IS Primal in everyway.  The only thing that could, well SHOULD, be different is that thing in the middle.  It's too big.  I have him standing next to my keyboard and the head looks awful because of that.  Looking from the side or head on and it looks great.  If they had put this head on another figure I'd instantly say it was Primal's.

 

Poses well and has good articulation (better than Megs).

 

Feet are on the big side, but it's a minor detail.  If they were a little smaller and make that thing in the middle of the head smaller he would look AMAZING!  But since we have what we have, he looks excellent.

 

I have to say I was a bit skeptical about Primal when I saw the pics, but now that I have him, I love him.  Definitely an anniversary worthy figure.

 

He has a huge Powerglideing gun/surf board.  Nice inclusion of Primal's transmetal flight mode.  The gun has the Cybertron key gimmick and I think it's awesome that he has such a huge gun.  Better to blast Preds with my dear. :tflaugh

 

Like Megatron, they did not piss on the past here.

 

The Axalon and the "Dark Side" (no name was given, but I'm using this for the Pred ship) are nice little additions.  Now you can replay that epic battle over prehistoric Earth if you want!

 

They also come with IDW's BW Comic #1, "The Gathering".

One thing though. You mentioned Primal having a BFG. Does the surfboard double a one that can be handheld or is it for flight mode only? Personally thought the surfboard looked cheesy and gaudy ending up in parts bin with a wide assortment of cyberkeys.

The surfboard is the gun.  The Cybertron key activates it.  It was the only way to use the Cybertron gimmick for Primal, his body is too small, as is Megatron, but Megatron's tail is the Cybertron gimmick.
