Why didnt G1 reuse molds as much as Cybertron has?

I don't think Transfandom is as low in Japan as Takara would believe it is. Takara just hasn't really cared about the TF franchise for the last six years.

i think that's because RID tanked big time so Takara probably considers TF's to be a high risk investment. they want to cut out all the fat and concentrate mostly on products that are an easy sell.

As for the late 80's / early 90's toys that didn't have many repaints... well, can we say "Staxx", people? To be blunt, a LOT of the TF's from that time period made GoBots look like 20th OP / MP Convoy.

And technically the Datsuns weren't repaints... they were all remolds. Prowl had the lightbar, and Smokescreen had the lower bottom edge.

Very true, G1 had a few repaints but at least with red alert and sideswipe and various others, there was a bit of retooling done.  Again, I dont mind repaints if they take a good mold and do it for a diffrent charachter and even slightly change the mold, but when every figure and especially with the alternators line, have like 3 or 4 repaints, it gets quite old.

Here's a good reason. Transformers sold like hotcakes back in the day. They had more money to be creative.

wtf is a hotcake anyways?

I guess it's just surprising to me that it wasn't well-received in Japan. Then again, they didn't have Beast Machines for the previous two years.

I guess it's just surprising to me that it wasn't well-received in Japan.

the autobots were not similar enough to the Braves.

Another thing is, hasbro needs more figures to sell to the public.  You know japan is small compared to a lot of places hasbro is selling.

Also, fans Starscream at anything and everything.  Nothing makes us happy, that why 80% of the time Hasbro doesn't give a damn.

Geez, I knew the Japanese were into baseball, but that's a bit extreme.

Braves the Sentai type series that went to play after TFs went dead in japan.  ((Just think of power rangers with transformers))

Look... repaints is like anything else in life - it's fine if it's done well and done in moderation.

Ah, one of the best comments that I have seen on this thread. So true so true.
