I am going to start a thread to satisfy my curiosity about a topic that has been poundering on my mind for a long time, and I want to see if its me or if somebody is sharing ths point of view.

 

I have noticed that the most popular Transformers are sport cars (or realistic vehicles, in comparison to the reaction towards futuristic/ficticious/alien vehicles I have noticed upon the years) and I was wondering if must TransFans are fans of sport cars as well.

 

I am asking this because of the trend I have seen over the years towards this type of vehicle modes. And the creation fo the Alternators supports this theory of mine. The lack of none-car Alternators (20th Anniversary Optimus does not count (IMHO), despite the level of detail), only makes me think that sport cars are the top favorite alt mode must fans want on a Transformer.

 

I have nothing against that (sports cars), though I am not a sport cars freak. As a matter of fact, I don't own a car and my knowledge of models is limited to the little I know about Transformers and the models used on them. :tftongue But I wish there would be non-cars Alternators. Even if the line goes by another name!  I am more a fan of military vehicles (and sci-fi vehicles, too) and I am dissapointed Alternators never carried a military vehicle.  :tfsad  I am making this comment in regards of an article posted in Seibertron.com today. Some of the replies tend to confirm my theory of favoritism towards sports cars.

 

So, what is your opinions?? I don't want to feel like I'm alone on this. :Dc

I think we like to see some characters portrayed as fast cars, ala Smokescreen, Jazz, Tracks, Sideswipe, and Streaker.

I believe it's because sports cars are fast, Exotic, Expensive. But, I do think they should make more Military Vehicles in the Alternator toy line. 

well, let's put it this way.  if you were a tf would you want to be a pinto or beetle ala bb?  or a friggin 200 mph beast?  i also agree that there should be some military figures in the line.  i know it doesn't count, but at least we're getting mp03 starscream.  and hopefully that color chart for a tank megatron turns out to be plans for a real figure.  i'm drooling just thinking of an accurate portrayal of a vehicle that stomps all in it's path!  hasbro needs to make up for that which is known as g2 megatron.  bah, what a brick.  horribly horribly colored brick!

Why do you think I was so happy when Skids showed up?  Ugly as all hell, the Scion isn't another sports car.

that's true, i was slightly surprised and happy to see a scion alt.  was also disappointed they didn't make it ironhide or ratchet.  the design of the xb is just too perfect for those guys.  oh well, i'ma gettin a dremel sooner or later so i'll make my own wish come true!  and where the hell is the tc alt?

I understand. Then again, I am not a fan of Sport Cars though I like them to some degree.

That depends: my "default personality" is war-minded, so I would choose some mean-looking, heavy-armed, well-armored configuration. If I were a spy, something discret should do the trick. If I were fancy and vain, I would be Tracks!  :tftongue

YES!!! G2 megatron was awesome but also a brick! :tfmad Guess by that time poseability was not in the mind of the designers.

OK. I should modify the title of this thread to reflect that. But still trucks and other civilian vehicles would fall on the same category, unless they start making Alternators out of ambulace rigs and fire trucks. Those would be phenomenal!!!  :thumb

I'm with you on this one! I first though/hoped they would be show-accurate Ironhide/Ratchet figures. Besides, Skids was NEVER on the show, if the intention of Hasbro/Takara was to use famous characters.

that's a nice Lamborghini Bat there.

G1 had a lot of sports cars so I don't see a reverse of the trend.  I would like to see a Hummer though.
