I'm really of the opinion that swords are a bit... ancient for Transformers battles. I mean... Prime with a sword vs. Megatron's arm cannon wouldn't have been such a draw, I'm thinking. Swords are a bit obsolete.

And are much better in close range battles.  Since in a close range fight you risk the chance of hitting your while firing that laser.

 

And in grimlock's case a sword is extremely functionally.  Grimlock is a straight fighter, he doesn't snipe, he doesn't just fire his gun, he runs into the enemy's line and cuts someone down.  Especially when he can take most of the laser blasts from cons, unlike other autobots.

 

Same with the other dinos.  Thats why also some combiners have swords and other weapons.

If this line does do really really well here's hoping there's a chance all the Dinobots would be redone. Hasbro looks to already be off to a good start with Grimlock why end it there. Also this looks to make up for the E incarnation but until Swoop is redone Hasbro is only half forgiven. Anything more is a major bonus.
