I didn't see the movie till I was fourteen. Didn't watch the series properly all the way through until two years ago.

And I would. When they get rid of a great character, and replace him with Rodimus, any age, you'll complain. It would have been like having Grimlock, and making him annoying whiner. It'd ruin the whole season....wait a minute......

I also saw the movie when I was 14........... in 1986

context is everything

true, but I turned fourteen 6 years ago......

Unicron.

They could have done whatever they wanted, and you would have loved it, since you were a kid at the time and weren't all critical about children's cartoons yet.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Not true. there's a reason the show was cancelled whilst the comic kept on running.

When kids don't like stuff they just stop watching, which is just as critical as Starscreaming, just actually effective.

This is pretty simple really. There are 3 things that will bring easy speculation.

1. Optimus Prime was dead

2. Megatron was alive (albeit floating in space but still alive)

3. Ultra Magnus had the Matrix and didn't know how to use it.

I was thinking yesterday about what would have happened in the TF time line if unicron hadn't shown up in TF:TM (read at all) and basically won the war for the autobots.  I mean he decimated the decepticon forces on cybertron, leaving only a very few left.  So i was wondering what you thought would have transpired or what the outcome of the war would have been without Unicron's intervention.

Yup. Unicron is what you called a "plot device."
