I was thinking yesterday about what would have happened in the TF time line if unicron hadn't shown up in TF:TM (read at all) and basically won the war for the autobots.  I mean he decimated the decepticon forces on cybertron, leaving only a very few left.  So i was wondering what you thought would have transpired or what the outcome of the war would have been without Unicron's intervention.

Hmm, I never really thought of it that way. The Decepticons really did have a stronghold on Cybertron. It's not like the Autobots seem to have any sort of plan to regain control of their home planet, pre movie. I also don't think the Decepticons would have been as successful at attacking Earth if Prime had been there from the start. I'm still trying to figure out how many Decepticons were on that one ship. I mean, they had a force big enough to take out Autobot City.

the decepticons return to cybertron and starscream gets crowned. he reveals plans to take over the moonbases and the decepticons don't retreat to charr.

 

ultra magnus leads a reconstruction mission of autobot city and completes the metroplex project right under starscream's nose while he orders all hands to eliminate the moon bases...

Everything in the entire story revolved around crowning Hot Rod as the new Autobot leader. So they gave the Transformers a more X-TREME enemy than they had ever had before, and Hot Rod's the one who defeats him. It's all a setup.

I think it would've turned out similar anyway.  The Autobots had already apparently manufactured all the weapons they would need to try and retake Cybertron on the two moons, and only needed the energon for the assault.  The ensuing battle would have probably wiped out both sides numbers to post-movie levels, and the surface damage to Cybertron may have ended up about the same as well.  Unicron, although primarily the counter that allowed for Hot Rod's ascention into Rodimus & leadership, did all the work & damage to both sides & Cybertron in much less time than had the assault actually taken place.

actually Hasbro decided to kill off Prime because they were going to do the same thing with Duke in the GI Joe movie.

 

 

 

BTW I always thought it was total BS how the movie opened with "The evil Decepticons have conquered the Autobots' home planet of Cybertron."

Maybe they finally realized that Shockwave was the only guy on Cybertron.....

Well they couldn't have kept him in and had him just hand over the reigns.....that would have been WRONG!!!!! especially considering who he'd have to give the reigns to.......

They could have done whatever they wanted, and you would have loved it, since you were a kid at the time and weren't all critical about children's cartoons yet.

I didn't see the movie till I was fourteen. Didn't watch the series properly all the way through until two years ago.

 

And I would. When they get rid of a great character, and replace him with Rodimus, any age, you'll complain. It would have been like having Grimlock, and making him annoying whiner. It'd ruin the whole season....wait a minute......

I always thought the decepticons had been in control anyway. What with the fact that they controled the spac bridge, and the palnet, and any autobots on cybertron were in hiding.....
