But the packaging is does match the quality of the show. I got a little extra money to spend so I might pick it up simply because it is supposed to be Transformers.

Masterforce is the best Japanese TF series IMO, you just have to leave your preconceptions of Transformers behind because it is very different.

It is the best Japanese Transformers series? That is not saying much to be honest as aside from R.I.D. I did not like any of them.

 

And the difference is very big indeed and that is one of my turn offs. No matter how brilliant it may be, humans controlling the Transformers goes against everything that makes Transformers so cool for me.

Call me crazy but I like some of the Power Ranger shows. Sure it is humans controlling robots but for that show it works. And there are some cute babes in it.  :tftongue

 

Sentient zords would not work on Power Rangers as it is all about the spandex wearing teenagers just as much as human controlled Transformers do not work.

 

Besides Power Rangers is meant to be cheesy, cheap and have simple storylines. For Transformers I want more, much more.

 

And that begins with sentient Transformers.

There are non-piloted sentient Transformers in Masterforce. The piloted ones are basically empty shells. I'd explain more but it would spoil the plot.

What keeps me wondering is why the Decepticons went to Earth. There are thousands of planets in the universe. It is much easier to find a nice planet far away, conquer that and drain it dry. Or at least get a headstart before the Autobots arrive.

 

Instead they go to the one planet where they are likely to find humans.  :tftongue

Read somewhere that the Transtectors are made sentient at the end. Does not sound like a "wow" ending to me though. Just something that should have been from the start.

Use a spoiler tag. I hope its not like in Headmaster, where the Headmasters do all the work while the classic characters sit back in awe.

Seen clips of it. Some older characters do appear (Fortress Maximus, I think) but the new characters have "taken over".
