Beast Machines...

Recommended Posts

I hate Beast Machines. I really do. Yes its the best 'bad' transformers show but its still bad. Random character changes, drives with absolutley no background. And Megs dragon mode is alot weaker then in BW. Also, how the hell did Waspinator get to Cybertron???? All in all, they tried to capataliz on the excellent Beast Wars, as so many have tried to do before, and like many of those attempts, this frankly left a sour taste in my mouth. My brain cannot make a connection between this and Beas Wars. It simply refuses delivery. So, as far as I'm concerned, I would just as son a dvd had never been released

I don't see how anything involving Waspinator could be "awesome"

True. I was pretty upset Thrust had to turn back into Waspinator.

you mean at the end? Come on, like anything's ever gonna work out for him :tflaugh

Beas Wars.

Beast Machines is the 'Highlander 2:  The Quickening of the TF Universe'  :tflaugh  :tflaugh

Ironically, there actually is a connection there... the guy who voiced Thrust was Joe Dawson in the Highlander series, although he didn't have a role in Highlander 2, he was in the last Highlander movie and will be in the upcoming movies as well  :tftongue

Seems simple enough to me:

Same characters, suddenly radically different personalities.  Were they interested in actual continuity or not?  The answer seems to be "no."

And, no, I'm not going to concede that a writer should be allowed all the license they want in modifying things - not when something is billed as a sequel.

Still like it as a show unto itself, but there's a mountain of grains of salt to be taken here.

The writers were very well aware of the characters as they appeared in Beast Wars. One thing you need to keep in mind is that there really wasn't a whole lot of character development at all in BW. Most of the characters in that show were essentially the same at the beginning and the end of the series. So all of a sudden to have character arcs -- SIGNIFICANT character arcs -- for these characters... well I can understand how it might be a bit off-putting.

But just to give you a run-down:

1. Optimus Primal: has the Oracle downloaded into him in episode 1, changing his focus and perspective.

2. Cheetor: is growing up and becomes increasingly frustrated with Primal's absentee leadership.

3. Rattrap: was never the "mighty warrior" type and preferred to rely on his gadgets and weaponry. After finding that he no longer had any of that, and after being rejected by the others for being "useless", he undergoes an identity crisis (which ends up being positively resolved).

4. Blackarachnia: is now 100% Maximal and is no longer fighting against a Predacon shell program.

5. Rhinox: was "changed" by Megatron, in his words, and the precedent of Blackarachnia in BW should be enough to explain how/why that all happened. He never got out of Tankor's body. Also watch "Dark Designs" if you want to see and evil Rhinox in BW. The two are very similar.

6. Megatron: despite what he says, he did very nearly lose the Beast Wars. Dinobot was part of Megatron's original crew, but he defected and ended up destroying the Golden Disk. And then at the end, TM2 Dinobot (Megatron's creation) gave the Maximals access to the Autobot shuttle that brought down the Nemesis. It's fair to say that Megatron's reliance on others didn't pay off the way he had intended. He was the one who got himself free on the way back to Cybertron, nobody else helped him do that. This would explain Megatron's desire for a singular mind ruling all of Cybertron (namely his). Similarly, all of Megatron's reliance upon his own beast mode (and his desire to "upgrade" himself) availed him nothing, as he still lost as a big powerful dragon thingy anyway. It's made clear in the second episode of BM that Megatron's organic purge is fueled by self-hatred; I believe that he blames the organic (and his reliance upon others) for his loss in the Beast Wars.

7. Silverbolt: really shouldn't need explaining, he was soul-raped by Megatron and discovered that he liked being evil. His sense of self has been shattered and he spends most of his time coming to grips with who he really is.

I was gonna say something, but Mr. Madhammer pretty much sums it up right here.

Simple question. Could Technorganic Optimus have beaten Optimal Optimus...No, no he could not. Yet Tech Optimus was able to fight Megatron to a duel in Bm pretty much every time. But BW TM2 Megatron was arguably more powerful then Optimal. Basically, I feel the series is a farce

Because of that? :wtf

What you don't know is the effects Megatron's unsuccessful attempts at purging his organics have had on his physical form. Every time he loses it and reverts to his beast mode, what does he do? He falls to the ground. He may not want to admit it, but half of "him" is organic at that point, and he only weakens himself by stripping himself of it.

I also would keep in mind that Optimal Optimus' body was being used by two very different people in BW and BM. Primal would never go on a balls-out rampage the way Megatron did in BM. Nevertheless if you pay attention you will see that Primal doesn't win that fight.

good point, he only wins because he manages to

trick Megatron into falling down into the core of Cybertron with him
, IIRC.

besides... we never know just how powerful his BM body is anyway. for all we know, it was more capible than his Op Op body. Optimus Primal in all his forms held back consistantly.

I was talking about the "fighting" part of the fight.... you know, the part where they fight and stuff ;)

it ends with Megatron flying up to the surface with Primal in his hand

i must say somethign aobut this. given the way BW was writen, it really didn't need much character development... most of the characters were fully 3d characters anyway.

the only real standout that was in the entire series was blakc arachnia.... she was kind of a 2d character, and did too much goddamn shrieking.
