an irony i realized about the Galvatrons.

Recommended Posts

the name "Galvatron" is actually more appropriate for an up-grade that is a simple repaint of Megatron. everyone knows that the name "Galvatron" is short for "Galvanized robot" and Wikipedia defines galvanization as:

"a chemical process that is used to coat steel or iron with zinc. This is done to reduce corrosion (specifically rusting) of the ferrous item; while it is accomplished by non-electrochemical means, it serves an electrochemial purpose."

so theoretically, the modern Galvatrons could be the resault of their Megatron counterparts undergoing an electrochemical process that makes their metallic components stronger and more durable. the process could easily be represented by repainting the Megatron toys. but in the case of G1 Galvatron, that up-grade was more than a simple electrochemical process to make his metallic components stronger, G1 Galvatron was a major overhaul. since G1 Galvatron was more than a simple Galvanized Robot, the name "Gigatron" probably would have been more appropriate.

what do you think?

Sounds perfect to me. I agree with the G1 Gigatron. + Unicron was really there for him and Megs was really beat the **** up.

definitions from Encarta:

1. stimulate somebody to act: to stimulate somebody or something into great activity

2. coat metal with zinc: to coat a metal, usually iron or steel, with zinc to prevent corrosion

3. stimulate body electrically: to stimulate the nerves or muscles of somebody's body using an electric current

so in essence, he wouldnt really need to be upgraded at all to take the name Galvatron, if Unicron had simply told him "You kicked Prime's ass, now go take revenge on Starscream" and sent him out all pissed off he still would have the right to change his name

"Gigatron" might make more sense logically, but "Galvatron" sounds ten bazillion times cooler. Anyway if I recall, his cannon shot some electro-chemical-type stuff that would make sense with the second meaning of "galvanize".

A while after RID I had gotten over Transformers and had managed to convince myself that Megatron's upgrade was named Gigatron...

Mostly because I had no idea what galvanize meant at the time.

And yet, only the original Galvatron actually had a form that was different from Megatron.

The modern Galvatron's are nothing but lazy thinking. They can't be bothered to come up with a proper reformatting so they just repaint. You realize that Energon was the first series since Beast Wars where characters are reformatted into new forms, and even only one of the transformetions was a proper new design

In armada Hoist was an upgrade of Smokescreen :P
