*is tired of the Prime apologists and the Prime revisionists*

They're the same, LM.

I meant "the people who say he's the best thing ever in the history of the universe" and "the people who like to be contrary and say he was evil and stuff"

Oh, well, in that case, I agree.

Heck, I think we should regard Optimus Prime as a toy and leave it at that. Anything beyond that is extreme, IMHO.

Prime is John Wayne. I'm more of a Clint Eastwood fan.

I still don't understand that.

It seems fairly normal to me for people to be interested in characters.

Be it soap operas, Sci-Fi, comics or whatever; characters, what makes them tick and what happens to them is what interests people.

And as large chunks of civilisation spend money or dedicate time to following or showing interest in fictional characters, be it through TV, movies, books or similar, the character fans are, if anything, the established norm, which is the exact opposite of extreme.

There's a great deal of intellectual benefit from taking fictional characters in fictional scenarios and asking why they do what they do and coming to understand that.

From helping us to understand other mindsets and all that entails, to showing us the attitudes, politics and morals of a society that created such a character at the time they were created and seeing the way society has changed by comparing that era's portrayal with today's, to understanding one another as we learn much about people from what they see in these characters to name just a couple.

We continue to open ourselves up to new information and knowledge, learn as opposed to growing lazy and complacent slobs who never think or question anything.

It's like college without the pretentiousness.

If you wanna explain how that's any more extreme than grown men (kitbashers not included) coming to talk about children's toys, I'd love to hear.

*Edit*

Altered the last line which sounded aggressive when it wasn't intended.

What?

G1 Prime is the BEST!

No contest!

I freak'n cryed my eyes out when I saw TF The Movie in 1986, man...

Guys are'nt suppose to cry over cartoons, right?

The toy was the holy grail back then, too...

Perfect 10! Well for the Eighties, I mean...

Right. :thumb

(sorry, I was 14 when it came out ;))

anyway:

I think Prime was cool and everything, but comparing G1 to BW/BM is apples and oranges. G1 was an episodic show; its purpose wasn't to show "character development" per se, but just to entertain kids in an old movie serial kind of way. BW/BM wasn't like that. In fact, I would argue that BW was weakest when it tried to do standalone episodes ("Go With The Flow" for example).
